WEEK 3 RECAP
MOTHER'S DAY PROJECT
For those who may not have seen it on Facebook... As you are aware, we're playing on Mother's Day on 5/13. When we played rec soccer back in the day, moms and dads were all purchasing individual and team photos like this:
So I thought it would be cool to offer to recreate some of these individual photos at the field tomorrow and then get them printed during the week (on my dime, of course). Then I can bring them on Mother's Day so if you'd like to invite your mom out to watch the game, you could give it to her there or if you will see her later in the day or the week, you can give it to her then. Thought it would be kind of funny to get an adult individual soccer photo.
Here are the logistics:
- I will be out at the fields tomorrow at 12:15 and we can find a spot to take them for the early games.
- My team plays at 1 so I'll be out of commission for that whole hour.
- I can hang around post-game for the 2 PM games and do some 3 PM pre-game photos as well
- If there are folks that want to get one post 3 PM games, I just ask that you find me quickly so I can take them and get to Oozlefinch as I have dinner plans.
- For those that won't be there tomorrow, my work schedule sucks but feel free to reach out and we can try to coordinate something.
For those that want them prior to Sunday, I can email you the file and you can get them printed yourself. If you'd prefer I print them, I'll bring them on Mother's Day and will be out there early (12:15 or so) as I usually am.
WEEK 3 RESULTS
Hot and Messi vs. UTTOTPHJ - Some UTTOTPHJ newbies got on the scoreboard in this one with Juan Cruz and Laura Schmitt finding the back of the net. This also had some solid goalkeeping by Scott Tinsley who has a new approach on goalkeeping readiness. And who knew a keeper could give up a penalty for talking on the cell phone mid-game? Hot and Messi made a comeback run, but couldn't get enough with this human wall in goal.
OTPHJ vs. UTTOTPHJ - In what was made out to be a huge rivalry game, it barely made a sound. UTTOTPHJ was severely undermanned and was also on the back end of a double header. Jonathan Taylor had another goal to run his total up to 7, but that's all they had as OTPHJ ran up the score to show the league which is the better HJ.
Netkicks and Chill vs. Kick in a Box - The most exciting thing about the beautiful game? The bicycle kick? Penalty kicks? Nope. Definitely ties. Our first tie of the season as Cory Hirsch and Markis Augustus played Battle of the Keepers in this one. Goals by Nadia Aly (Kick in a Box) and Brendan Fajotina (Netkicks) led to this deadlock. First point of the season for Kick in a Box! Congrats to Ryan O'Donnell and the squad on getting out of the cellar. *slow clap*
Oozlekicks vs. Ronaldo McDonaldo - Jay Coble is an animal in goal. Through 3 weeks, it's going to be very tough for another keeper to push him out of the Hands of God award. Adam Smith from Oozlekicks scored an absolute beauty in this one with a shot that hit off the far post and went in. However, in the end Ronaldo McDonaldo continued their winning ways with a couple goals each from Mike Machie and Dara Emami. I credit the success to the Yogurt Parfait pre-game cheer.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WEEK THREE - TEAM OF THE WEEK!

Gary Johnson - 4 goals to lead OTPHJ over Moat Monsters. Back-to-back weeks where Gary has ended up on the TOTW. Continues to impress and is an early favorite for MVMP (most valuable mediocre player) and the Golden Boot.
Chad Martin - Chad has been one of the most consistent players in the league this season as he's scored at least 2 goals in every game Look Ma has played. "I'm going for that golden boot" is what I believe he told me last week.
Chris Cooke - While Gary Johnson is getting all of the goalscoring glory, Chris Cooke is the creator on OTPHJ. Amazing control, touch, and distribution and generated a lot for the team in the last two weeks.
David Chappell - With co-captains Kearsten and Kim out on Sunday, David had to be all over the field. Scored a goal, was a ball winner, and according to him, "I played my arm off."
Mickey Amaro - Another two time TOTW winner. Mickey is doing everything for Hangover scoring the only goal while playing solid defense. We don't get a lot of defensive nominations each week, so it's even more impressive that she's won twice playing in the back.
Cory Hirsch - With Kick in a Box getting their first point on the season by tying Netkicks, a lot of that lies at the feet (or more appropriately, hands) of Cory Hirsch. Made some real clutch saves to keep it at 1-1.
Zelda the dog - As you can see by the team of the week, she was all over the field and I'm pretty sure she got more playing time than half the players in Week 3. A shoe-in for the golden paw award because she's uncatchable.

THE RACE FOR THE GOLDEN BOOT
Here are the results after Week 3. Week 2 leaders Jessica Huntington and Mike Machie both scored two goals in Week 3, but that wasn't enough to stay atop the leaderboard. With Gary Johnson's 6 goal week 3 performance, he catapulted to the top of the league. Chad Martin and Jonathan Taylor are both quietly in striking (no pun intended) distance.

WEEK 4 PREVIEW
Game of the Week
Moat Monsters vs. Ronaldo McDonaldo at 1 PM
-- Coming off a loss against OTPHJ and with Ronaldo McDonaldo being undermanned for tomorrow, this could turn ugly. But Ronaldo has the talent to make this a fun one to watch.
