WAKA Peninsula Party Updates

We've seen a lot of growth in our WAKA community on the Peninsula over the past few years. What started out as a small Wednesday night kickball league has exploded! WAKA in Newport News/Hampton now has eight separate seasons of kickball, sand volleyball, and ultimate frisbee running this year along with 3 separate one-day charity events. 

Because we've grown so much, recently Fagel and I stepped back and decided to adjust our approach to our social events. Instead of each individual league having separate, smaller mid-season and end of season parties, we've decided to pool our resources and focus on throwing a big combined blowout each month for all current WAKA Peninsula players! 

The benefits of going with the combined parties:

• Combined budgets give us more flexibility to have better overall parties. Regardless of whether you're in a mega-league like VA Peninsula or if you're in a small growing league like Ultimate, you'll have the best possible WAKA party experience. 
• More people to kick it with! Not only do you get to hang out with our teammates and friends from your league, but now you can mingle with players from other leagues. This format opens up the connections that are possible! 
• Less confusion with dates. Many of the people who play in multiple leagues can attest that it can be difficult to keep up with all of the different party dates, locations, and details for each league. I know I had a tough time, and it's kind of my job to know these things! By having one monthly party, it makes it easier to track and it also spaces out the events so you always have something to look forward to. 
• All of the parties will be unique and fresh as we plan to not duplicate any location! 
• Leagues may still have separate events outside of the monthly regional parties such as meet 'n' greets, happy hours, etc. This doesn't restrict any of those great events from taking place as well.

More details about how the new party process will work:

• If you are a registered player in an active league during that month, you will be included on the guest list and will have access to all of the complimentary drinks and specials (ex. All people who are registered for VA Patriot, VA HR Sand Volleyball, and VA Peninsula Ultimate will be invited to the July party).
• If you are a registered player in an upcoming season of WAKA, but have not started playing yet, you will also be included on the guest list. (ex. A person is not playing any summer league, but they have signed up for VA Peninsula Kickball in the Fall. They'll be included on the guest list for the July party even though Peninsula doesn't start playing until September.) 
• Unless otherwise stated, these parties will be open to the public so guests will be allowed, but they may not have access to any complimentary drinks/food if they are not on the player roster. We may consider giving out guest passes to non-players in exchange for a charitable donation to Relay for Life. More details to come. 
• We will continue to encourage responsible drinking. Each party will have a unique Uber code provided by WAKA which will allow attendees to get $10 off their safe ride home. 

NOTE: This combined party calendar only applies to any leagues in Hampton, Newport News, or York County. Leagues in Williamsburg and the Southside will continue to enjoy separate mid-season and end of season parties.
