With winds swirling, dark clouds forming, and flicks of lightning in the distance, the games were certainly in jeopardy. But the storms managed to stay away from Briarfield Park and the games continued. Time to look at the scores from VA Peninsula Week 8.
Don't Come On My Base 10, NKotB 0
NkotB was hanging tough with a short handed squad. They only had 9 players available. To make matters worse, 1B Tucker Booth suffered a leg injury early in the contest. Rather than sit out and take the forfeit, he gutted through the game. Although the Kickheads showed a lot of heart, they weren't able to contain the DCOMB offensive attack. Lucas Feller and #BigJeffShildt both had home runs into the gaps of the under-staffed outfield to lead the team.
Foul Balls 11, PBJT 4
The Foul Balls certainly adapted to the fast conditions on the dirt field and consistently put pressure on the Jellies by loading the bases throughout the contest. Joe Preseault did a ton of damage, driving in 6 runs.
WAKA Shame 4, #WAKAholics 3
It's very rare that shame defeats 'holism. But it happened last night. Must've been an intervention on field 3.
Ballsagna 2, Battlestar 1
These two rivals played outstanding defense, as the game went into the bottom of the 5th, locked up at 1-1. Mike Harvey narrowly avoided the tag at home, scoring the game winner on Andrew Lowell's line drive.
Plan B 7, Boom 1
This game was locked up at 1-1 through the first 3 innings, until Dani Buchanan cleared the bases with a 2 run triple to break the game open. She would later score and it was off to the races for the Bees.
Rumspringa 7, Chaotic KILFs 0
Stacey Carpenter went 2-2, including a 2 out bases loaded RKI to spark another win for the first place 'Springa squad.
Ballz Deep 3, JFK 3
JFK jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but the offense stalled, as JFK tried to pick up the pace to get 3 innings in before the rain potentially canceled the game. If anyone knows JFK, they know they do not typically work fast... In the 5th inning, Ballz Deep rallied, their outstanding ladies leading the way. Lisa Rock and Amy Schendel scored runs to secure BD's third tie of the season.
Kick in a Box 7, Breaking Brad 3
Breaking Brads' Adam Nusbaum achieved the rare 'bunt home run' early in the game, but the tie dyed crew wasn't able to build on that momentum. KiaB bounced back from a loss last week to bring them back to .500.
Kick Ass 5, Wrecking Balls 2
Larry Liverman went 2-2, drove in 1 run, and scored twice to lead KA to another victory. Jose Pettaway had a home run in the victory as well.
