When it comes to fashion statements and kickball, I think
that socks were always one of first pairs of flair I ever had the pleasure to represent
on the field. I started playing kickball
in 2009 and have always looked forward to wearing a cool new
pair of themed socks, drinking a beer and standing on the field to be one of
the 4 girls who always showed up to play, even though I didn’t know all of the
rules. If most of you know me, not much has changed since then, but I can say now I know there is so much more to this wondrous sport!
Now I am sure you all are dying to know a little bit about when
the sock was first invented and how they were made. Believe it or not they date back to the 8th
century BC. The Ancient Greeks sported
this ceaseless trend.
I can’t say they would have been extremely comfortable in
comparison to today’s version as they were made from matted animal hair
specifically for warmth. Leather and
other woven fabrics were later sported by the Romans and the machine knit socks
we all know and love were not adapted until the late 16th
century. Before this, socks were even ideally worn with sandals.
As for our crazy sock week, we had quite a few teams
participate to get social points this week.
I think my favorite was the Pucking Pandas. Once again, our WAKA princesses in tutus Leha
Green and Ella Pierce sported their tutus with socks pinned on them, which was
super fab!
Other memorable socks were sported by Valerie and Levi from
BBYS as well as KR4K team members including Felicia Griffin, Brian Williams,
Cortney Edwards, and Jacqueline Ceniceros. Bed Bath and Your Mom had an exceptional turnout as well wearing bright crazy socks, including teammates Rio Caras, Leon Elder, and Tom Patrick who put the ladies to shame with their colorful kickball gear!
And last but certainly not least were 6 out of the 9 team
members that showed up for Team Fusion who earned their social points this
week.
Well that’s all for this week folks, until next Monday! Don’t forget about the upcoming Ref Love
contest!
