Pre-Season Coaches Top-10 Poll

We're going to have a new weekly feature on the GMOT blog called the "Coaches Poll". Similar to NCAA football or basketball, we're going to ask coaches from around the league to rank the league's top teams from 1 to 10. I will then compile the results and post it here every Friday.

The goal is get a 'pulse check' from a diverse group of kickballers as to which teams stand out among the pack. Hopefully, it'll stimulate some conversation and good natured debate in the comments. So, without further ado, here are the results of our first Coaches Top 10 Poll of the Spring!

1. The Emperors Club (92 pts, 4 first place votes)
The VIPs won't look exactly like this, but the voters still
showed their confidence in the 4 time champs.
The defending back to back to back champions got a lot of respect from the voters despite losing a handful of key contributers this offseason. VD's Chris "Bundy" LeBlanc said, "[They] just find a way to win championships."

2. Just For Kicks (87 pts, 1 first place vote)
Another team that has lost a lot of players, but not the respect of the league. Jagernaut captain Justin Littell said it best, "I know [Bryan] Freed had to regroup this year, but he always has solid teams."

3. Rumspringa (69 pts)
#81 hopes to be doing
a lot of smiling this season.
"Watch out for Rumspringa this year." warned CG captain Buster Patterson. After making a run to the final four in the Fall, the 'Springas appeared in the top 5 of nearly every pollsters ballot.

4. Vicious & Delicious (65 pts, 4 first place votes)
"They poached the top talent from JFK and picked up the best players from one and done Victorious Secret and they'll benefit from being under the leadership of two big contributors from the VIPs. On paper, this team should be the hands down winner of the division.", VIP head coach George "p90sex" Kiriazidis stated. Although, many captains agreed (VD was tied for the most first place votes), the lack of name recognition had some place VD low on their ballots. Boy, will those coaches be in for a rude awakening.

5. 5 O'Clockers (58 pts)
This is widely expected to be the rebirth of competitive 5 O'Clocker kickball, now that they have their trademark black unis back, starting pitcher back, and most importantly their swagger back. "I expect they'll be a lot more grittier this season." Kiriazidis said, "The Clockers will take advantage of getting into team's heads with their talk on the field."

6. Jagernauts (57 pts)
George's take, "Losing [Eddie] Seavers and Lil Jon [Meier] are big losses for the Jagers. They have filled in by adding Kim 'Gray Bush' Merritt and others but I don't think it'll be enough to push them ahead of the teams ranked above them."

What up, gangstaaaah?
7. Chubby Gangsters (41 pts)
The Gangbangers battled inconsistency last season, which lead Bundy to note, "It really depends on which team shows up." Kiriazidis added, "CG has been in the league for solid amount of time and they should finally be putting the pieces together and now work on refining their game versus learning their game."

8. Battlestar Ballsacktica (24 pts, 1 first place vote)
If you're curious, yes, the one first place vote did come from Ballsacktica captain Andy Tapley. He said, "Hopefully the other pollsters recognize our potential." Maybe if this was a power poll ranking team names, BB would deserve top billing, but until then, they'll have to work their way up the ranks by winning some games on the field.

9. Foul Balls (23 pts)
Proof that the Foul Balls brand still has some positive name recognition. Although the Foulies have underperformed the past two seasons, they are still only one of 4 teams to ever win The Wentworth Trophy. In the words of Jager's Justin Littell, "You can't ever count them out."

10. Chicken Tetrazzini (17 pts)
Paul Love It.
After starting out strong last season, Chicken Tetrazzini faded down the stretch. Will they be able to find consistency and play to their potential all season? If so, we could see the warriors in pink climb up the rankings.
