Preseason Ranking Motivates Tetrazzini to First Victory

by Adam Henry, Chicken Tetrazzini

When the Chicken Tetrazzini captains awoke on Wednesday morning they were greeted by this courtesy of the WAKA VA Peninsula Mega Preseason Preview:

Tetrazzini was a team last season that showed promise in some games, but was undone by inconsistency.  These were the expectations that were now being thrust upon this team. Using the banter of the kickball talking heads to their advantage, the trio of Adam Henry, Andrea Hoffman and Derek Patterson channeled their inner Shaka Smart this week in a 5-1 victory over the newly formed Battlestar Ballsacktica. Gathering the troops for their traditional pre-game cheer, Henry took a moment to tell his team what was expected of them. “I’m not looking at the number 11 team in this division,” Henry said before sending the team out to battle(star). Perhaps too amped up from the pregame, CT went on to record two quick outs in the top of the first, however, the team settled down and was able to rally for 2 runs with 2 outs thanks to good placement from the middle of the order and a key bases loaded walk by Hoffman.

As mentioned before, inconsistency undid Tetrazzini in many games last season, particularly on defense.  Looking to plug the holes so often found by the division last year, CT went out and found newcomers Joe Cain (6’4” laser rocket arm), Scott Mackie, John Watson and Justin Waddles. The charger combo of grizzled vet Joey Lawrence (Whoa!) and Cain, along with catcher Taylor Wilson put to end any notions Ballsacktica had of bunting against CT. Turning their focus to the outfield Battlestar found that to be even less welcoming after stellar defensive plays turned in by vets Carla Lessig and Krystal Kenney.

Offensively, it seems Tetrazzini has added an element it sorely lacked in spots last season: speed. After turning the lineup over, CT was able to tack on 2 runs from leadoff man Kris Hodges and Mackie in the 4th giving the closer Henry some nice breathing room to shut the door on a nice first win.

Catching up with the captains after the game, they were definitely satisfied with their team’s effort.  “I’m just so proud of our team tonight” said Hoffman. “Coming off the heels of Wrestlemania, our team went out and heeded the words of the Rock and knew their role,” added Henry, “everyone contributed, it was a total team effort,” a sentiment echoed by Patterson.

Riding high off their first win, CT will look to take that momentum into their showdown with Moose Knuckles and knock off another team picked ahead of them in the preview. It should be an interesting and exciting match up of two 1-0 teams with Tailgator roots.
