Jagernaut Week 11 Recap and End of Season Awards

Week 11 concluded the 4th regular season in the Jagernaut franchise. . .and what a year it was! As a special bonus (and as an apology to those expecting a Jagernaut writeup last week, I was working my home built flux capacitor), I am posting this super-size Jagernuat end-of-the-year writeup and individual team awards! So in the words of Marvin Gaye…Let’s get it on!

The Jagernauts were facing another newcomer in the peninsula division, the New Kickheads on the Block. Though they might be newcomers, both teams entered the game with identical records, which meant that they weren't going to be pushovers.

In the first, however, starting pitcher Kim Merritt was literally intimidating New Kicks off of the plate with a nasty curveball that broke more than 5 feet. Kim did his usual fine job of pitching holding NKOTB to just one run and getting his second foul-out of the season.

Offensively, the Jagernauts were back to their old ways. Joe Mazzitti and Kevin Gitkos scored runs in the first off of a RKI double by Mike Seals. And in the third, it was the bottom of the lineup that threatened by loading the bases in the third, however, good defense by NKOTB held the Jagers scoreless. The Jagers, however, tacked on two more insurance runs from (again) Kevin Gitkos and Joe Mazzitti off of a deep sacrifice fly by Kim Merritt.

The bottom of the 5th saw team captain (and 3rd person alert) Justin Littell pacing on the sidelines as the Jagernauts held back a late charge from the New Kickheads. They held on to the lead thanks to Mike “I’m more of a rockstar than that rockstar game about rockstars” Seals flawless relief pitching and good fielding defense to seal the Jagernaut win. Final score Jagernauts 4 - NKOTB 2 in a hard fought game that really took adult kickball to the limits. Kyle Wright earned the MVP of the week, catching a deep fly ball in the 3rd and kicking 1.000 on the day.

With the season in the books, the Jagernauts ended up with a 7-5 record and find themselves ready for the division tournament. So with that I say it’s been fun recapping all of these weeks and I hope to have a bonus recap after the division tournament! But hang tough people,

we’re only getting started with this week’s festivities! Now I present an extra-special bonus edition of the Jagernaut Spring 2011 Team Awards!

Jagernaut Extra-Special Bonus Edition End of Season Awards

Best dancer hands down: Mike “Hammertime” Ramey. If you haven’t seen Ramey’s dance moves, you haven’t lived yet.

Rookie of the year: Mike “Curved Balls” Seals. Mike is not a rookie to the sport of kickball, but spring 2011 served to be his first season with the Jagernaut franchise. Mike came into the team and promptly made is presence felt with nasty pitching and deep RKI driving kicks.

Veteran of the year: Kim “Silverbush” Merritt. Kim has been playing kickball for like 500 seasons now and basically invented the modern version of kickball as we know it.

Kim and Mike - The two new Jagernauts

Party planner of the year: Ashlee “I don’t need glitter” Gitkos. Ashlee was responsible for the formation of “The Alliance” with Rumspringa way back in week 4, which helped the Jagernauts win the first bar buzz belt! Jagernauts F*ck Yeah!

Endangered Species: Katie "Eddie Jr." Litle. Katie did have a lot of other stuff going on this spring, but promises to rectify it by quitting her job and practicing kickball full time for the fall!

A rare Katie Litle sighting!

Best Nickname: Kyle “Keep Drinking” Wright. I think Kyle earned this on one of the Jagernaut preseason videos one year, and now has to live up to it’s reputation basically for the rest of his life (or until he gets sick of us and moves). I guess there could be worse things to do! (Justin's Note: I did not make up the nicknames so this category is legit)

Best Theme Music: Dan “Easy Score” Moore for “Let’s get it on”. This dude scored like 300 times this season. Any ladies willing to take a chance with one of the most eligible Jagernaut bachelors?

Best inside connection: Dottie “Mrs. Commisioner” Wood. No really people, she’s gonna be Mrs. Commissioner after I told her to say “yes” to Brent’s marriage proposal.

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes....? kickball?

Cutest Married Couple: Justin Arrington-Sims and Liz Arrington Sims. They never looked so good until they posed with the WAKA Bar Buzz Belt at their wedding reception.

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes?...? the bar buzz belt?

Cutest engaged Jagernaut couple: Joe Mazzitti and Kathleen Krohn. Disregarding Joe’s vast knowledge of teenage boy-band and bubblegum music, Joe and Kathleen earn this honor by being the only fully Jagernaut engaged couple on the team.

Soon to be marriage #3 from the Jagernaut family. It's like I'm the matchmaker or something?

Best drinker/social scene/party animal: Trici “Gossip girl” Fredrick. Well what can I say folks? I think all of you folks know who Trici is and without her, the scene at Luckies wouldn’t be a tenth of what she made it to be. This award was my personal favorite.

Hobnobbing with members of "the Alliance"

Sportswoman of the year: Sara “Lily's Mom” Ruch. Sara was a consummate professional on the field week after week and it was an honor to have her as a part of the Jagernaut family!

Ruch takes home the sportswoman trophy and promptly lays down a bunt down the first base line.

Baddest @ss Potty-Mouth motherf*ck....uh I mean..most team spirit: Nicci “Surething” Surething. What the F*ck people, don’t be a bunch of @sses. Her F-bombs are almost as brutal as her bunts!

Dr. Surething getting ready to open up a can of whoop @ss...using words

Most team spirit: Julie Kittelson. Julies boombox in week 12 proved to be the catalyst that woke the Jagernauts up after dragging from week 11. She always had the most enthusiasm of the group was a pleasure to have on the sideline, not to mention her mad-drinking skills!

Picture of the year:
Kevin “Glitter” Gitkos. This sh*t cracks me up!

Athlete of the year: Alden “Thundercat” Lawrence. Don’t mess with Alden people, he will make it such that you were never born…and I mean that.

Thundercat ready to strike!

OK I guess that about wraps her up! I hope you enjoyed my mindless dribble for the past few months and I look forward to posting more stories in the future. And next season, stay tuned for a new weekly or bi-weekly feature!
