VIP Seven Run First Inning Buries NKotB

HAMPTON, VA - The Emperors Club offense broke out in a major way on Wednesday night, scoring seven runs in the first inning against the New Kickheads. The VIPs withstood a late rally by NKotB in the 7-3 victory.

- Josh Lively
Roger Jackson, John Laneave, and PJ Jones lead off the game with singles to load the bases. Phil Barr than drove in a run with a well placed single. Brent Wentworth (3rd person alert!) than ripped a left footed line drive into right field that scored Laneave and Jones. Keith Best than drew his team leading 3rd walk of the season and Lorraine Adkins reached on a fielders choice. With the bases jacked, George "Mr. Auto Erotic Affixiation" Kiriazidis took advantage of a couple of throwing errors and cranked out a bases clearing triple. Josh Lively than added the 7th run by driving in GK.

But to give the Kickheads credit, after that nightmare inning, they settled down nicely and shut down the VIPs offense. Dean Epps, Jake Carel, and Gene Efird worked well together at P, C, and Charger respectively. It looked like The Emperors Club was going to tack on a few more runs in the 3rd inning when the top of their order threatened again, but the Kickheads were able to get out of a bases loaded jam without allowing anymore runs.

On the offensive side, the Kickheads were not about to go quietly. They continued to apply the pressure by putting runners on base. In the bottom of the 2nd, Dean Epps and former VIP Andrew McCrea reached base on a couple of well placed bunts. NKotB's Drew Paxton than sent a bomb into deep center field that got past the VIP defense to drive in both runners. The Kickheads than added another run, Manny Anderson, in the 3rd inning. Ultimately though, they weren't able to add anymore runs, and the game was called for time at 7:26 PM after four innings.

Other Game Notes: Their were several highlight plays made in the game. Dean Epps made a very athletic diving catch off the mound in the 2nd inning to rob Ashley Foreman of a base hit... VIP Ch Keith Best made an amazing jumping catch in the 2nd as well to secure a crucial out... C Roger Jackson was a one man human highlight, smothering the short bunts of the NKotB offense, despite a couple of controversial encroachment calls... Big thanks to Rumspringa's Troy Southall, Dan Wright, and Matt Wellbrock for stepping in to ref after the original refs no-showed. We really appreciate it, and you guys did a great job. ( I didn't get a chance to catch you guys at Luckie's, but be sure to see me on Wednesday or whenever so I can buy you guys a pitcher.)
