Spring 2011 Week 12 Recap

Chubby Gangsters 3, Battlestar Ballsacktica 0
The Chubby Gangsters were coming off their biggest victory in franchise history, when they shut out The Emperors Club in week 11. Often times, teams stumble in the game after a big win, and many pundits were curious to see if the Gangbangers would have a hangover from last week. Battlestar Ballsacktica has been steadily improving, and were coming off of a big win against the Moose Knuckles last week... The game was a very close one, with both defenses playing very sharply. The Gangsters were able to manufacture some runs, and scored the 'W'... With the win, the Chubby Gangsters clinched the #3 seed in the playoffs.

Chicken Tetrazzini 5, Off in the Corner 0 (FORFEIT)
The Emperors Club 5, Moose Knuckles 0 (FORFEIT)

Laaaaaame.

5 O'Clockers 10, Jiminy Kick-It 1
The Clockers offense came out on fire and methodically dropped 10 runs on the overwhelmed crickets.

Chicken Tetrazzini 3, Saved by the Balls 0
Saved by the Balls, lead by head coach Jon Hund, came out very fired up in this matchup. They were determined to get a win before the end of the season, and this was their last best chance. While they were able to play sound defense, unfortunately for them, they were not able to crack the Angry Bird defense. Chicken Tetrazzini secured the win and was able to pull their record to 6-6 on the season.

Jagernauts 4, New Kickheads 2
The Jagernauts were coming off a lackluster performance in a week 11 loss to the VIPs. This week, they were looking to bounce back against a very young and athletic team in NKotB. They built up a 4-0 lead, but the Kickheads were not going to go down quietly. They rallied to score two runs, and threatened to tie it up late, but the Jager defense held. For a more detailed recap, see Justin Littell's breakdown.

5 O'Clockers 6, Vicious & Delicious 3
VD was in control of their own destiny, in that a win would have earned them the regular season title and the number one seed throughout the playoffs. However, the 5 O'Clockers were determined to play the spoilers. They took advantage of some uncharacteristic mistakes on defense by VD, were very aggressive on the base paths (note: I was impressed with Courtney Travis' running. She was very smart and aggressive. You can tell Jeff Pauley has coached the team up well), and they found some holes in the outfield with some well placed kick aways... The result was an offensive barrage of 6 runs over the first two innings, with nearly every Clocker chipping in to do damage. But Vicious & Delicious would not be rolled over that easily. Dave Dixon's crew came back and scored 3 runs to cut the lead in half. They threatened to break it open in the 5th inning, with the tying run at the plate, however the 5 O'Clocker defense held strong and secured the big win.

"Who is the underdog now?!" Jeff Pauley defiantely shouted in the 5OC locker room after the game.

Because of the shocking nature of the upset, there was some speculation that VD had thrown the game and intentionally lost on purpose to gain the 2 seed. Many pundits predict that the path to the finals would be easier to go through the 2 seed bracket than the top seed, as it would avoid a potential semi-final matchup with Just For Kicks.

VD co-captain Chris "Bundy" LeBlanc responded to the rumors in a post-game press conference, "We did not throw the game. They just kicked our ass up and down the field."

In the end, it was a big win for the Clockers, who definitely have all the momentum in the world headed into Saturday's tournament.

Rumspringa 9, Foul Balls 0
"Rumspringa, Prepare to be boarded."
That was the statement made by Foul Balls' Nathaniel Johnson prior to the season finale. And sure enough, the Foul Balls came decked out in pirate gear ready to plunder some 'Springa booty. Alas, as impressive as the pirate gear was, it did not help the performance in the field as 'Springa was able to plate 9 runs and cruise to victory.
