Thank you, Kickballers!

This Saturday, we brought our epic Spring season to a close. Battling extreme triple digit temperatures, 11 teams competed for the prestigious Wentworth Trophy in the End of Season tournament! Vicious & Delicious won the championship in a hard fought contest against Just For Kicks, 1-0! Congratulations VD! You guys had a great season and truly deserve to hold the trophy!

I just want to take a moment to reflect on this truly amazing season. There were many highlights:

• There were 15 teams and 278 players joined - the largest in VA Peninsula history.
• We partied hard! 2 epic parties and a meet and greet, at Luckie's and Waters Edge
• Our Relay for Life team worked hard and raised over $3,000 for the American Cancer Society
• We enjoyed two free admissions nights at War Memorial for the Peninsula Pilots game
• The bar scene was out of control at Luckie's every Wednesday. Who knew that a plastic WWE championship belt could be so much fun?
• This season, our Ghost Man on Third Blog had over 31,000 page views!

I want to take a few moments to recognize and thank the people who helped us pull off such an amazing season!

• Trici Fredrick: The Bar Buzz was definitely the best part of the GMOT blog! Thank you for all your hard work (and sometimes stress)
• Jeffrey Scott, AJ Derr, and the rest of the War Memorial Staff: We are very priviledged to have the best facilities in the area for kickball and the awesome support of the WMS staff.
• Bryan Freed and George Kiriazidis: Thank you all for all of your help setting up the fields each week. Regardless of what time your games were, you were always there early to ensure the bases were taken care. I appreciate it.
• Melissa Rarick and Andrea Hoffman: Your leadership made our Relay for Life efforts a success that exceeded expectations.
• Nathaniel Johnson and Justin Littell: Loved the recaps you guys submitted every week to the blog. You guys are some funny dudes.
• Mary Katherine Evans and Ashlee Gitkos: Thank you for taking so many pictures every week. Not only did you help me with blog content, but I also had several new facebook profile pics all season.

I hope I didn't forget anyone. There are so many people who put effort into making this season a great one... Most of all I want to thank each and every one of you who signed up and played this season. My hope is that you all had a great time, made some new friends, and felt that you got more than your monies worth from the experience!

WAKA Wednesday Night at War Memorial! - 7/27The fine folks at War Memorial Stadium would like to thank us for a great season once again. This Wednesday, all kickballers will get FREE admission to the Peninsula Pilots game vs. Wilson if you are wearing a WAKA tee shirt. Game starts at 7:05 PM! Hope to see you all out at the ballpark!

Fall 2011 Registration is OPEN!Registration for our Fall 2011 season is open! The season is scheduled to kick off on August 24th! Even though registration has only been open for a few weeks, we already have 17 friend groups and 60 ballers signed up! Make sure you sign up ASAP at www.kickball.com/vapeninsula, so you don't miss out on another wild WAKA season!

Finally as we reflect on our Spring, I want to take a moment to remember one of our own who is no longer with us. Tyler Lorenzi, rest in peace. You are missed and will not be forgotten.
