WOMAN OF THE WEEK - MIMI GILL, RUMSPRINGA

It is with great honor and pleasure that I bring the Peninsula the next

WOMAN OF THE WEEK

Ladies and Gentleman..

MIMI GILL

I met Mimi last year when she was playing for FOUL BALLS. She immediately became one of my favorite people on the Peninsula. If you know anything about the Foul Balls, you know that they are out there to have a good time, and BOY DO THEY! When I got to 2nd base (where Mimi was playing) we decided it would be more fun if she got on my back piggy back style while I was running to 3rd. While we didn't actually do it (my team's a weeeee bit too competitive for that to fly) a friendship was born! If you don't know her yet, believe me, you will! She's on the field, she's at the bar, and she's always smiling!
This season Mimi has turned in her Foulie green jersey for a Smurf Blue- RUMSPRINGAAAA!!! jersey.
What made you make the move to RUMSPRINGA this season?
Mimi: I must give credit for my first real encounter with Rumspringa to Ashlee Gitkos, from the Jagernauts, who invited me to join her on an overnight trip to OBX in June. I met most of the Rumspringa clan over their "Spring Break" beach house bash that weekend. Like many others in WAKA, I was instantly drawn to their enthusiasm and innate ability to enjoy life to the fullest! There's no shortage of personalities on team Smurf Blue and I absolutely love it!!! Their on field competitive spirit is contagious, but no more so than their off-field energy. How could I resist a team that consists of Patrick's insistence on wearing blue jeans to every game, Matt's ability to color coordinate his sweatbands to his outfits, Brian's dedication and positive reinforcement, and well.. Angie and Kecia... and the list continues! As you could see at week 1 of this season, we all mesh well! My new teammates are amazing! We have each other's backs and enjoy one another's company. We cheer each other on and support one another in times of need! What else could you want in a team?

You went to your first Circuit Event this year with Brian Freed, and JFK. How did you like that level of competition compared to what you're used to seeing on a Wednesday night?
Mimi: Playing in my first Circuit Event certainly changed the way I play kickball! There are not enough words to describe Freed and his coaching ability!!! His knowledge of the game just amazes me. He's passionate and humble. So when I was asked to play, you can only imagine how thrilled and honored I was to be with JFK. I'd be lying if I didn't admit to being unimaginably nervous. Luckily, there were plenty of familiar faces from our WAKA Peninsula league to calm my nerves before the tourney began. The competition was fierce and definitely at a whole new level; however, players from the other teams were incredibly amiable. I was surprised by the athletic caliber of the players, yet I was even more impressed by their willingness to assist me. Many opponents gave me useful tips, and some even practiced bunting drills with me! I would encourage WAKA Peninsula players to go to these events, challenge themselves skill-wise, soak in as much as they can, and bring it back to the field on Wednesday nights! I truly had the most exciting, exhausting, and entertaining time of my life in D.C. and would do it all again in a heartbeat!!!

We all know the Foulies know how to party. Rumspringa definitely hold their own, but never got to claim the Bar Belt solo.. until you joined them! How does it feel to be on top Week 1?!

Mimi: I returned to kickball last season after a long hiatus and, as everyone knows, I played with Gang Green (as referred to by my former teammate and remarkable blogger, Nathaniel Johnson). I have wonderful memories with them and was excited to see this past Wednesday that they still live up to their partying ways! Being back this season is exciting, but returning with Rumspringa is indescribable. I by no means can take any of the credit for our off-the-field-win, as it was a team effort. As I mentioned earlier, there is a remarkable cohesiveness on Rumspringa and I think it was apparent Wednesday night. I know that this season marks a new beginning for all the teams and I am so proud of Team Blue for not only giving it their all on the field, but for bringing it with them off the field to our sponsor bar, Luckie's Dueling Pianos. My hat's off to them because it sure was fun! I think my team would agree that what matters most is that we ALL have a blast!!!

I heard a rumor that your birthday is this Wednesday! If someone wanted to buy you a drink, what should they buy you!

Mimi: Yes, it's true! This Wednesday is in fact my birthday! I had an incredible time celebrating Britney (Travis; 5 O'Clockers)'s birthday last Wednesday and look forward to us all going out again for mine!!! I couldn't be more excited that it falls on a Wednesday and I'll have the chance to celebrate it with some of my most treasured friends and teammates!!! As far as a drink goes... well anyone who knows me knows that if it's not a BUD LIGHT POUNDER I'm drinking, then it's a shot! Without hesitation, I would definitely say a Tuaca Kamikaze! It's my favorite shot!!! It's basically a Kamikaze with Tuaca in substitution of Vodka! Second on my list would have to be Jager, hands down!

WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT MIMI

"Her charismatic and charming personality is unmatched by any kickballers."- Jeff SmoothOperator White- 5 O'Clockers

"The most positive, optimistic girl I have been around." - Matt Wellbrock, Rumspringa

"Where do I start about Mimi! ;) Mimi is the sweetest, most loyal friend I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. She is always smiling, making everyone around her smile too. Great pick for this week's Woman!"- Britney Travis, 5 O'Clockers

"Mimi has only been a part of Rumspringa for a week, but she's already established herself as our greatest free agent pickup in franchise history. She starts on the field over a very competitive group of girls and as evidenced by the picture from last week, she gave us the spark we needed to finally win the Bar Buzz by ourselves."- Brian Yohn, Rumspringa
