and Bruce Hornsby. (or I may have been doing more “WAKA’s Real Men of Genius”…or I may have been polishing my blog writing/reading skills…or maybe winning the bar belt) Hey, whose jealous?
But...after offering my Game Gear to the weather gods, the Peninsula was blessed with good weather last Wednesday and with that, the Jagernauts faced their toughest challenge of the year, the perpetual contenders of Bryan Freed’s Just for Kicks.
JFK started off hot, scoring two runs in the first inning; however the offense was halted as Sara Ruch made a heads-up play at second to save a few runs from scoring. In the bottom of the first, the Jagernauts came right back with on run of their own. The top of the order got things done, with Dan Moore scoring off of a RKI by Kim Merritt. The Jagernaut offense was a little slow to come back from the rain out weeks, scoring just the 1 run in the first. However the Jagernaut defense did not have any mental mistakes and held JFK usually-high-powered-offense to just a handful runs in just the 1st, 2nd and 4th innings. The final score JFK 5, the Jagernats 1.
I’m just glad we got to play again” said left fielder Kyle Wright. “Things have kinda sucked because of all of these weather delays. I had to crash Tabb Elementary’s 5th grade gym class just so I could get my kickball fix.”
While Kyle played a good game in left field and had a solid kick in the fourth, MVP of the night goes to Sara Ruch, who had a heads up play at second base to hold JFK's top of the lineup in the first inning. Sara also brought candy apple treats after the game, and they were delicious. Said Ruch after the game “I’m glad that I could contribute both on the field and off!”
Next week, the Jagernauts have more action than a (non-crappy) Steven Segal movie (like Under Siege), with a way better plot line as they face New Kickheads in the early game and Chicken Tetrizzini in the second.
And there you have it folks, after a long couple of weeks off, the Jagernauts and my (bad) column writing (sorry) are back in action. Cause, you know, that’s just the way it is.
