Fall 2011 Wentworth Trophy® - Notes, Records, and Milestones

With 10 seasons of WAKA VA Peninsula Kickball now completed, let's take a look at some of the records and milestones in the history of the league.

  • Shake N Bake, as the 6th seed, was the lowest ranked team to ever win the End of Season tournament. Previously no team ranked lower than 3rd had won the title (Foul Balls, Spring 2009). Six out of the Ten League Champions were ranked 2nd headed into the tournament.
  • Brent Wentworth (3rd Person Alert!) became the the individual with the most championships. The SnB victory was his 5th ring, along with 4 from his days with The Emperors Club (S08, F09, S10, F10). Wentworth has been on 50% of the championship teams in the history of the league.

  • Patrick Jones and Wentworth joined Nicole Schaeffer, Dave Dixon, Chris "Bundy" LeBlanc, and Roger Jackson as the only players in league history to win the championship with two separate franchises.
  • Jones also joins the ranks of four time league trophy winners, which includes Lick It's Lorraine Adkins, George Kiriazidis, and Schaeffer.
  • Over the course the Fall 2011 Regular Season, Shake N Bake went 7-3-1. SnB tied Rumspringa, and then lost games to VD, 5OC, and JFK. In their historic tournament run, they beat all four teams on their way to the title. I'm not a mathematician but I have to assume the odds against them being matched up against those four teams in the tourney had to be staggering (any of you engineers or other brainy types want to take a guess at the odds?)
  • For JFK, it was their fourth consecutive trip to the League Championship Game, and their fourth consecutive loss.
    • Spring 2010: The Emperors Club 3, Just For Kicks 1
    • Fall 2010: The Emperors Club 5, Just For Kicks 4
    • Spring 2011: Vicious & Delicious 1, Just For Kicks 0
    • Fall 2011: Shake N Bake 2, Just For Kicks 1 (7 innings)
  • JFK tied The Emperors Club for most appearances in the League Championship Game.
  • The Fall 2011 Wentworth Trophy® Finals was the first time the championship game had gone to extra innings.
