Kickballers,
Another awesome season of WAKA Kickball is in the books! Congratulations to Shake N Bake for winning the championship in epic fashion, a 2-1 victory in 7 innings. I want to also thank JFK for a great run in the tournament. You guys are warriors and Saturday was definitely a classic.
Hope everyone had a great time all season and at the End of Season Party at Luckie's on Saturday night. One of my favorite part was the "WAKA! WAKA! WAKA!" chant that then led to a U-S-A! U-S-A! chant!
As we close out this season, I want to take a moment to recognize the volunteers who selflessly share their time and hard work to help the league run.
- Bryan Freed and George Kiriazidis - The grounds crew. Every week showing up early at 5:30 to set up the fields for us. Meticulously measuring the distance down to the inch! Didn't matter if they didn't play until 8:30, they were there to set it up. I appreciate your time and help. The league can't function without this behind the scenes work.
- Nick Sutton, Ashlee Gitkos, and Mary Katherine Evans - Our photographers extraordinaire! Thank you guys for taking literally thousands of awesome pictures this season, posting them online, and sharing them with the rest of the league. Without you, so many of us would be without cool profile pics on Facebook.
- Justin Littell, Karen Savell, and Nathaniel "Jorts" Johnson - Your recaps on the blog are hilarious. Thank you for posting them throughout the season.
- Trici Fredrick - Speaking of the blog, can't leave out our resident "Bar Buzz" author Trici! Thank you for entertaining us all year long. I know it's not easy deciding who rocks hardest at Luckie's.
- AJ Derr, Jeffrey Scott and the rest of the WMS crew - We are so lucky to play on the best fields in all of the world (seriously, I can't think of a better spot). You guys continue to be the best partners we could have, and I appreciate you all for the time and effort it takes to host us every week.
- Chris Bartnik and the staff at Luckie's - Gotta give some love to our great sponsors, Luckie's! A big reason why Wednesdays are the highlight of a lot of our weeks is because of the great times had atfer the games and at the parties.
- To all the team captains - You are the backbone of the league. Often times it's a thankless task being the captain. It can be stressful! You have to worry about getting your teams signed up, communicating important info, setting the lineups, juggling the playing time, and much, much, more. Throughout it all, this group of captains has been positive, enthusiastic, and awesome to work for. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your leadership.
I am very proud to be associated with WAKA VA Peninsula. I love seeing everyone come together, play a kids' game, make new friends, and all around have a great time. We got a great thing going, and it's only becaue you as players have continued to provide your feedback and we've evolved over time... In the next couple of weeks, you will receive a Customer Service survey from WAKA asking for your opinions. I would ask that each person take the time to think about your overall experience this season and take a few minutes to complete it (it's short, I promise)... In the survey, please share your open and honest feedback. We want to know what you like and what you think can be improved on. I can't stress how important your feedback is to me! Thank you in advance for taking the survey.
Finally, look for information to be published on the Facebook page, GMOT blog, and Twitter feed about the upcoming Spring season and a BRAND NEW WINTER LEAGUE on the Peninsula! (I know you kickball junkies won't want to go a whole 6 months without WAKA in your life!)
As always, if anyone has any questions or needs anything at all, please let me know.
Commissioner Brent Wentworth
