Ballsacks and Moose Knuckles Too Wet to Play

by Karen Savell, Battlestar Ballsactica

OMG! OMG!! WAKA Wednesday finally came!!! Hundreds of kickballers got to dust off their cleats for some Wednesday night action at War Memorial Stadium, while others... didn't get a chance. The sky opened up a little before 9 pm and games were called (Damn you, Scott Duncan!! It's all your fault!). But that won't stop me from my write ups! What little action we had was some good stuff and is worth highlighting, so here goes....

The BalllllllllllllllllllllllSACKS were up to kick first, and kick they did! They got bases loaded with the first 3 kickers Michael Machie, Dennis Leonard (new guy alert!) and Karen Savell. Then Brandon Silver kicked away for a sack fly to allow Mike to run in for our 1 and only score.

On defense, we were HOT! Catcher Michael Machie made a double play by catching a pop up and then throwing out the first base runner for a 1-2 punch! The second inning was even better as right rover Jason Wieszek decided to hog all the defensive plays. They had bases loaded with no outs, then tried to kick a bunt down the first base line. Jason promptly scooped it up and tossed it to home plate for the out.  Then the next kicker tried to kick away, but it didn't quite have the distance as it went straight to Jason for the catch.  Then the 3rd base runner decided she would try to tag and run, but it was no use. Jason ran her down to tag her for the double play!  Dang dude!! I think you found your calling!

That was it! I think the score was 1-1 when the heavens opened up and Brent called it.(After which it stopped raining....dammit!)

So, since that's all I have, I'd like to introduce to you the awesome players of Battlestar Ballsacktica!!  Several players have returned which makes for good chemistry on the field, and darn it... some of them just won't go away!

Our Captain Andy Tapley put together a good team this year! Andy returns as one of our pitchers and seems to improve every year.

George kir,Kiaril,Kralo... GK has graced the Ballsacks this season with his presence!! The Lick It squad dismantled and it's players have been scattered throughout the WAKA league. When GK isn't saving little fuzzy duckies from being squished or chewing out car repair shops, he is our Co-Captain and pitcher.  He admits at being a "stat nerd" and will be very helpful in strategy advice. Welcome GK! (OK, his name is George Kiriazidis for all you newbies out there)

Michael Machie returns as our catcher and top of the line up kicker, because he's a fast little sucker! He seems to improve with each season, which seems impossible...but not for "The Machine"!

Philip Tanner returns to the Ballsacks because no one else will take him. (oops, did I say that out loud?) Actually, quite the opposite! "Tuna" is a great player anywhere you put him! Very quick and versatile. ("Mr. Flannel" wasn't here for the first game because he and 3 other of our teammates were on a cruise....Jerk!)

Stephanie Wacek, MVPeter Kuhr, and Alison Easterday are the clowns of our team and will probably win us the Bar Belt. That's the only reason we have them on the team... Ok, just kidding! I'm still mad that they put a stinking CRUISE above playing on WAKA Wednesday!  What the hell were they thinking?!  Anyway, they made it back and I don't think anybody threw up or anything. yay... these 3 musketeers are teachers (God help our future generations...) who all have played several seasons and have the chemistry to get things done! (mostly...) MVPeter is actually a pretty dangerous kicker in that he's a good line drive kicker. Glad to have them back!

Joe Stumpo is returning as our 1st baseman. Watch out when this guy is kicking! He's got several years of soccer under his belt and he's got excellent aiming skills.

Brandon Silver is back with his golden foot! (or maybe its silver...) Our fourth in the line up sweep kicker is back in action this season. Outfielders hate this guy! They back up and he still kicks it over their heads! Glad your back Brandon!

Mike Graziano and Jason Lantz are a few of our newbie players. Mike played a few years back and is looking to getting back into the awesomeness of kickball... and he wants to spend more time with his honey, Nicole Plesha.  And where are you gonna find Plesha?? Kickballin' of course!! Jason is new to us this season as well. He's played in the other league I'm not supposed to mention here. We promise to laser superior WAKAness into his brain and show him a good time like no other so he'll forget the horrors of "the other league which must not be named".  Welcome Jason and Mike!

Nicole Plesha, Erin Herring, and Jason Wieszek all return again this season. Nicole is a great player on both sides of the ball. She has a good head for the game and she's an all around great competitor! Erin is as fast as ever and is hard to get out when she's up to kick. Jason is freakin' EVERYWHERE on the field! This dude is wicked fast and will run you down if he catches you off base.

Dennis Leonard and Bobbi Conrad are some more newbies that we've acquired. "Denny" is a very competitive soccer player and I have a feeling that he will break your wrists if you try to catch one of his kicks! This guy is a dangerous pick up and we are glad to have him! Bobbi is new to the game entirely. She's never played before, so we will show her the err of her ways and corrupt her as much as we can. She's not an innocent little lamb out there though... she's a gym teacher at a local school and a few of us have noticed during practice that she's got a good throwing arm! Watch out for Dennis and Bobbi!  We are looking forward to seeing them in action!

Lorraine Adkins is on our roster as well, but has chosen to be an emergency back up player for our girls should we need her. She has filled her schedule with soccer, soccer, and more soccer! She's caught the soccer bug and decided to take a break from kickball for this season. Which is ashame because she is AWESOME!! She always seems to find a way to get on base and she has excellent defensive skills... dammit... (GK, please give her a little talk, will ya??? Whisper sweet nothing's into her ear, give her a beautiful new WAKA ball to play with and take her out to eat or something...just get her out on the field!!!)

And then there is me... Karen Savell. Outfielder and write up person! This is my 3rd season playing and I LOVE it! I've got over 30 years of softball under my belt (Gawd, I'm old...) and I know how to play defense and run those bases, baby!

These are the wonderful people that make up Battlestar Ballsacktica!! I'm proud to be a part of this team and I'm looking forward to some good times.

GIVE IT UP FOR THE BAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
