Lots of great action in the opener (at least until the thunder storms rolled in and washed out the 8:30 games ). Let's take a look at the results.
A surprisingly low scoring affair as both teams put runners on base, but had a hard time driving them in. PBJ had a heart breaking debut, as the tying run rounded 3rd base headed for home in the 5th inning, only to trip over a teammates jacket and fall short. C Taylor Wilson applied the tag and the Angry Birds came away with the W.
Chubby Gangsters 5, JKI 1
CG captain Keith Morehart declared in the preseason that the the Gangbangers were going to be a force to be reckoned with. During week 1, his team backed him up. After winning a shotgun challenge to earn home field advantage, the Gangsters rolled onto victory.
Foul Balls 9, New Kickheads 8
A wild shootout between the Foulies and the Kickheads saw Jen Nardi and crew earn their first VA Peninsula victory in over 2 seasons!
Shake N Bake 4, JFK 1
In the rematch of the Fall 2011 Wentworth Trophy® Finals, the defending champs made a statement on Wednesday. A four run 2nd inning, three of which came with 2 outs, buried the Dead Kennedys. JFK would mount a threat in the 4th inning, but couldn't get more than a run after Dr. Jeremy Pinier was gunned out at home by Dave Dixon in a very close play.
5 O'Clockers 4, Burning Bridges 0
This was a highly anticipated match between final four teams from the Fall. In their first ever matchup, these two rivals tied each other on November 9th. The game wouldn't be that close this time, as the Clockers cruised to victory.
Kick Ass 3, Free Ballin' 3
A great game between two quality teams. Free Ballin' took advantage of some defensive miscues to take an early lead, however Bryan "NoShoes" Moore would spark a rally a couple innings later to tie the game up. KA had a chance to win, loading the bases in the 5th. Free Ballin's Jonathan Pilz would pitch out of the jam, forcing some pop ups to secure the tie.
