Rock-aoke... Say What??
I don't know if you guys heard, but a couple weeks ago, WAKA held and on-field 80's night which was followed shortly by a karaoke bash at Luckie's. If you didn't hear about it because you weren't there than SHAME ON YOU! If you didn't hear about even though you were there and you just don't remember it than GOOD FOR YOU!
There was such a positive reaction the next morning (by positive I am refering to all the "I feel awful this morning" posts) that Commissioner Wentworth and myself have been conversing ever since and would like to officially announce:
WEEK 8 SUPER HERO & ROCK-AOKE EXTRAVAGANZA!!!
May 23rd is the first week of our averted scheduled where we will be sharing our joy of kickball with York County and representin' at Tabb Middle School. On a weekly basis, in any given game, there can be a hero. Maybe a game winning kick to score runs in the bottom of the 5th, maybe someone makes a fantastic catch in the outfield to stop a late-running drive. In our adult sports world, heroes are born on the field (or the bar, depending on your priorities). This week however, we want to see REAL Superheroes hit the field. Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, create your own, come as a team, come as an individual... just come dressed up! The times are the same, the teams are the same, the on-field shennanigans will be the same (keep in mind it is public school property though).
All this sounds great, and while I'm looking forward to seeing what costumes we can rock out on the field, I'm really looking forward to rocking out at the bar... literally! And we proved during 80's night just how rock 'n roll this league can be. The question is... How does it get ever bigger??
Commissioner Wentworth and the powers-that-be at Luckie's have come up with something that can only be described as a face-melting, mind-blowing hell-of-a-time!
Rock-aoke and karaoke are the same concept. You pick your song, maybe down a little liquid courage, and head up on stage and belt it out at the top of your lungs. The twist with Rock-aoke is you won't be backed by a DJ and some corny back ground music. You will be backed up by an actual live Rock Band on stage behind you belting out every riff, jamming out every bass line, and blasting ever drum beat into the crowd as you work the mic!!
Since it is a live band, the one thing we are trying to do for them is give them a little heads up on what we want to perform, so we can give them a list and they can prepare for it. So start thinking about it, and I will be making the list this coming Wednesday (May 16th) to hand into the proper authorities. I'm even here if you would like a consultation on what song you should sing.
So starting thinking about your costumes, and really start thinking about your song choices, and I will see you all in 2 Wednesday for a WAKA Wednesday you will never remember... er, forget!
