The kickball-factory named PBJT returns for their fourth season in WAKA with yet another radically-reconstructed roster. After Spring 12’s inaugural season, they lost 9 players. In Fall 12, a much-improved regular-season record and an epic Kansas City-rules playoff loss to Free Ballin’ was followed by the loss of 11 players. After Spring 13’s 3rd-place finish and subsequent spanking by eventual-champion Kick Ass in the tournament, PBJT lost another 11 players. What can possibly be the explanation for this revolving door of purple-clad players that causes such consternation and misery to the core of the team? Captain Christina Obershaw turned to statistician James Maxlow for answers.
His response? “The average age of our departing players is approximately 23 years, 2 months. The average age of our returning players is approximately 68 years, 3 months.”
So the secret is out. PBJT is where old kickballers go to die, metaphorically-speaking. But the team is proud of its geriatric appeal. Little-known fact: wear a purple PBJT shirt to local eateries and get 15% off dinner entrees from 430pm to 500pm.
Each season, PBJT manages to re-load with fresh young talent, however. Each batch of young’uns that the team acquires doesn’t start the season knowing how creepy it is to play kickball with people that, technically speaking, might be their own absentee moms and dads due to some crazy nights back in the late 80s.
So what is the outlook for PBJT this season? That’s hard to say. But what can be said is this: PBJT will eventually be the only team in WAKA history where grandparents and their grandchildren are on the same roster. And when that happens, watch the f&$% out.
