Who Are All These New Teams?

Earlier this week, it was announced that VA Peninsula has met the maximum team capacity for the 7th season in a row. 18 teams will be competing and partying every Wednesday night this Fall.

But these 18 teams aren't the usual suspects. In fact, this is proving to be quite the season of
change coming up. Gone are some of our longest tenured franchises like the Chubby Gangsters, New Kickheads, JFK, Kick Ass, Battlestar Ballsacktica, and PBJT. And while these teams' presence will surely be missed, it leads to another question, courtesy of Marilee on Facebook.

Ask and ye shall receive. Why don't we take a brief look at the 9 new teams that will be playing at War Memorial for the first time next month!

Don't Stop Balleiving

Captain: Keith Morehart
Color: Cardinal
This looks like the landing spot for a lot of the Battlestar veterans. Casey Heck, Jacob & Alison Kirsteatter, Peter Kuhr, and Tim Nellis. They've also lured a couple of former WAKAholics, pitcher Ed Aaron and his wife Missy. Additionally, it looks like Keith is planning to add some rookies to the fold to round out the roster.

Fireballs

Captains: Brandy Wood & TJ Guarry
Color: Orange
Brandy and TJ made their debut in the spring with the WAKA Shame. Now, they've decided to branch out and lead their own team. Going with them from the Shames are several players including Kelsey Butler, Ryan Greene, Ryan Saloka, Felicia Griffin, Adam & Rachel Hartberger. This core group is very familiar with each other. As they integrate some additional pieces, they hope to exceed the performance of their previous squad.

Panik Attack*

Captain: McCoy Wood
Color: Ice Grey
One of the most successful franchises in all of kickball history returns to WAKA! They have several championships from the now defunct VA Shore league in Norfolk and have raised the 2010 Founders Cup World Championship. They recently came out of "retirement" to compete in the WAKA Mid-Atlantic Regional in June, and the bug has bit them. Look for this crew of elite kickballers to compete for the one trophy that they have never held, The Wentworth Trophy®.

*EDIT: After posting, I was informed that the team name will not be Panik, as the group is currently looking at other options.

Hammers

Captain: Nick Schmidt
Color: White

Heads

Captain: Curtis Faubion
Color: Charcoal
The Hammerheads came together this winter to compete in some of the top kickball tournaments across the country. Now they are throwing their hat into ring and entering not one, but two teams into the VA Peninsula Fall! Both rosters are stocked with tremendous talent and All-Peninsula caliber players.

Hey, We're KILFs 2

Captain: Trish Phillips
Color: Gold
The Chaotic KILFs have been playing WAKA VA Peninsula for over a year now, and have seen their numbers grow season over season. Last Spring, their roster was bursting at the seams. Just like a cell dividing, they have split into two. KILFs 2 might be the 'second' squad, but don't take that to mean they're taking a backseat to the Chaotics. This team will play hard.

Hotdogs & Tacos

Captains: Jeremy Smithey, Talbert Dunn, & Mike Kern
Color: Helonicia Pink
This crew is truly a mixed bag. Smithey has assembled a roster that is comprised of former players from PBJT, WAKAholics, DCOMB, Breaking Brad, and the KILFs. Can't wait to see how fast these foods gel.

Kick Pitches, Get Money

Captain: Lucas Feller
Color: Lime Green
This team will no doubt be the most physically fit team in the league. The majority of the players on KPGM are members of Geoff Morehart's Jungle Gym. These athletes are ready to make a splash on Wednesday nights.

Recess Rejects

Captain: Rick Henry
Color: Forest Green
Many of the former Kickheads have found a home in Rick's new Recess Rejects team, along with some WAKAholics like Daniel Pabon and Dr. Adam Gold.

There you have it! As we get closer to the season and the rosters begin to fill out, we'll have a full preview of all 18 WAKA Wednesday squads on the official VA Peninsula podcast 3 Up 3 Down (not to be confused with all the unofficial ones out there).
