Aaaaw yeah, it's been a great season of kickball this fall. Time to wrap it up, crown a new Wentworth Trophy® champion, and party together on Saturday.
First a few notes on the tournament.
- Saturday, Start Time: 9 AM, Location: Gosnolds Hope Park, 901 E. Little Creek Rd, Hampton
- Schedule: http://www.kickball.com/node/
600145/schedule/view - Reffing: Please note the reffing assignments for the early rounds. Please have your refs ready to rock and roll at the start time to keep the tourney on schedule. For the later rounds, I am looking for volunteers. If you can stick around, please let me know! These tournaments usually go very smoothly thanks to our great refs who step up. Not only will volunteers receive my sincere gratitude, but I will find some room in the budget to give you a little break on registration fees for winter.
- Dress Warm! The forecast looks like it'll be sunny, but with temperatures in the 40s. You'll want a few layers.
- Time Limits: Unlike the regular season, we do not time the games. All games will go 5 innings, unless the mercy rule is hit. With that said, we do ask that you be respectful of each other's time. Be ready to play at the start time, hustle on and off the field, limit warm ups in between innings, and keep a steady pitching pace. Barring any long extra inning games, we should finish between 4-4:30ish.
- Mercy Rule: At the end of the 3rd inning or any full inning thereafter, a team up by 12 runs or more automatically wins the game and play concludes.
- Extra Innings: If a game goes to extra innings, there are some modified rules that come into effect, otherwise known as "Kansas City" rules. The last kicker from the previous inning starts on 2nd base and the defense can only field 8 players (4 men and 4 women).
- Please be sure to wear an official WAKA shirt, even if covered by another article of clothing.
- For full tournament guidelines, please refer here.
If anyone has any questions about the tournament outside of what I covered above, please don't hesitate to let me know! Can't wait to crown the 14th WAKA VA Peninsula Champion!
PARTY REMINDER
Our End of Season "Hats and Pants" Party is Saturday night, 7:30 PM, at our awesome sponsor, Luckies in the Hampton Power Plant.
- We have 6 kegs of beer for WAKA players, as well as a $500 tab for basic well liquor drinks.
- Complimentary food buffet (Mmm)
- The theme is 'hats and pants'. Come dressed in your best hat and pants. No prizes. Just pride.
- The superlative awards will be announced!
- There will be music and dancing to follow, as Luckie's is one hottest night club on the Peninsula.
I expect that they'll need to replace that roof after we blow it off.
Other notes:
- Since you all are staying into tonight, drinking water, and resting for tomorrow (right?), we're going to give you some entertainment in the form of a brand new episode of 3 Up 3 Down. We'll be live podcasting via google hangouts tonight at 8 AM. Please visit the WAKA VA Peninsula Facebook group for the link this evening.
- Registration is open for our winter season of VA Raptor. You know you can't wait until April to play some kickball. Come hang with us at GHP every Saturday from late January-March. Already have 5 teams forming!
Thank you all for playing WAKA Kickball this season! See you all at the fields!
