The calendar is about to turn to June, which means one thing, it's time to start getting amped for the 2015 WAKA VA Patriot Kickball draft. While most of you may be enjoying a Saturday night out with friends, partying, and enjoying the weekend, 3 Up 3 Down's Brent Wentworth and Jorts Johnson are guzzling Coke Zeros and ranking the draft prospects. Might as well share our labors with the kickball world.
If you're familiar with ESPN's Todd McShay or Mel Kiper's Big Board, than you'll get the concept. We took the most recent list of 60 players and selected our top 25. Obviously, with any objective rankings your opinion may differ. Please feel free to tell us what we messed up in the Facebook comments.
1. Joe Preseault
Charger, The Itch
A classic five tool player who plays the most important defensive position on the field, Joe Presault can lead off, clean up, grow a mustache and charge with the best.
2.Curtis Faubian
Catcher, The Itch
In the draft seasion, its impossible to overlook the importance of picking up interior defensive players, so the best pure catcher in the draft pool and a long time veteran should not be in the green room long.
3. Brian Neal
Catcher, Kicks and Giggles
Neal has risen up boards lately with spectacular play behind the plate and top of the order potential.
4. Josh Dell Carr
Charger, Old Dominion University
Another stand out at the charger position, limitless potential, GMs should have some concern about rust as Carr hasn't played competitive kickball since November. Still, this is a difficult pick to pass over as he can charge, lead off, and look cute as a button.
5. Brad Kirby
Charger, Peanut Butter Jelly Time (V2.0)
Falling behind Carr because of his advanced age, Kirby can still paint lines, smoke line drives, and charge at a high level. Take care GM's, the Braddlesnake is susceptible to injury and family vacations during the summer months.
6. Jeremy Edge
Outfielder, Bizarro
If you find your team lacking an elite catcher, you can do worse than selecting one of the best pure bunters in kickball in Jeremy Edge who has also proven himself a serviceable catcher in past draft seasons.
7. Jason Riley
Pitcher, Cardiac Arrest
If you look past his unfortunate choice in partners, Riley is a valuable asset on the mound and in the middle of the order. The first pitcher off our board currently.
8. Casey Heck
Utility, Smokin' Bunts
The first "surprise" on the board, Seattle Jesus has been consistently improving since his debut and while he doesn't perform at an elite level at any one position, he is a player who does many things well.
9. Brent Wentworth
First Baseman/Pitcher, Cardiac Arrest
Five time, five time, five time Wentworth Trophy champion Brent Wentworth has been experiencing a renaissance in recent seasons. Brent can pitch, brent, and play first well. He was a first round pick once...who says it can't happen again?
10. Jenn Miller
Utility, Kicks and Giggles
The first female off our big board is the most talented offensive weapon.
11. Nick Schmidt
First Baseman/Pitcher, Pop Pop
Reliable hands and a strong arm at first make him a valuable first basemen, but Nick's ability to also pitch adds to his draft value.
12. Matt Wellbrock
Pitcher, Rumspringa
Awwwwww yeah! The kid's really been showing us some things. Wellbrock has improved his offense and his proven he can go more innings on the mound in the heat than Geoff Morehart.
13. Ian Fluke
Pitcher, Five Toe Death Kick
A solid choice to shore up the middle of the order, Ian can launch bombs and rip line drives. He is an aggressive baserunner with knowledge of the game.
14. Nathaniel "Jorts" Johnson
Outfielder, Cardiac Arrest
The four time All-Peninsula outfielder will be well rested come July. Both PBJT and Cardiac are guilty of burying this standout near the ends of their lineup, to be honest. Jorts is a consistent threat to drive in runs with liners or to start rallies with precision bunting. Watch out for the BMS (big man speed).
15. Brandon Silver
Outfielder/First Base, Bizarro
Good hands and a big boot make Silver a value pick. Plus he bunts now too!
16. Chris "Bundy" LeBlanc
Outfield, Foul Balls
Deals on all your hydration and home cleaning needs.
17. Dani Buchanan
Catcher, VA Hustle
A lifetime athlete, Dani excels anywhere you put her in the field. She's no easy out at the plate either.
18. #BigJeffShildt
Pitcher, Kick Pitches, Get Money
You'll hear him before you draft him, but Jeff is a quality arm on the mound who is an enthusiastic and dedicated athlete. Do not doubt this man's will to win.
19. Ben Ottman
Charger, Don't Come on My Base
If you still have needs at the charger position, Ben can provide depth, but he also plays well at first base and the outfield. After the opening rounds of the draft, this is the type of player who will win games.
20. Manny Zapata
Outfield, Don't Come on My Base
Currently leading VA Peninsula in home runs for the spring 2015 season.
21. Ed Aaron
Pitcher, One Kick Wonders
Old man Aaron is deceptively skilled on the hill. He's added a solid kicking game to make a well-rounded player.
22. Josh Joyner
Utility, Cardiac Arrest
Another player who fills many roles. His best position is outfield, however if you need him to step up and charge, catch, or pitch, he's your man. It's always nice to have a guy who can do several jobs well.
23. Curtis Blauch
First Base, Kicks and Giggles
The jester can bunt well near the top of the order and provides stability at first base.
24. Keith Morehart
Outfielder, Foot Clan
The big fella can kick, but don't let his size fool you. Keith can lay down bunts and fill in at several positions on the field.
25. Katie Bruce
Utility, Five Toe Death Kick
A newcomer on the big board, Bruce is on our radar because she's posting up some eye popping numbers for 5TDK on Wednesdays (.500 avg, 3 R, 7 RKI). Other than that, we aren't too familiar with her play, however her Facebook photos look like she's an athlete. That's VA Patriot scouting 101.
There you have it. That's our top 25 as of today. If you all liked this, please be sure to comment and 'like'. If it's something you want to see more of, we may update this in a couple weeks. In the meantime, be sure to sign up for VA Patriot and declare yourself eligible!
