Notes & Observations

  • Bizarro has not been the offensive juggernaut that I predicted. They’ve scored an anemic 4 runs thus far on the season. Some of their best and most consistent kickers have been slumping out of the gate. However, they’ve managed to avoid taking any losses. They outlasted a scrappy DCOMB effort last night and have improved to 2-0-2. Testament to that D. To have no losses while only averaging 1 run a game is impressive.
  • Credit to the DCOMB defense though. They kept the Biz kickers off balance. Josh Seidnitzer played really well at catcher. Nick Schmidt has some of the most reliable hands at one, and of course, the ageless Mark Flores is as overpowering as they come. Not too many pitchers can say that they’ve fouled out Jeremy Edge.
  • The Fireballs finally scored! Two, in fact. But the stout defense that limited Smoking Bunts to 1 run last week didn’t show up. They gave up 7 runs in the loss to the Foulies.
  • Next week has an interesting match up. The leagues two statistically worst offenses clash. The Fireballs (0.5 runs per game) take on the scoreless Pitching Dez. Bold prediction: I think this one is going to get a little loose and both teams will put up 5+ runs.
  • In other Pitching Dez news, they welcomed Jennifer Gold back from an Air Force deployment overseas. Welcome back and thank you for your service, Jennifer!
  • I didn't get to see as much of the Smokin' Bunts / Five Toe game as I would have liked because I got held up by the famous KA cook out. But what I did see I liked, Mike "Ball Tongue" Mallozzi has really improved into a very good charger and is one of the main reasons the former "Breaking Brad" crew has been competitive. He made one nasty throw to get Shane Chambers out on a nice bunt... Still, to Smoking Bunts credit, it wasn't enough.
  • Karen "The Silent Killer" Savell has been known for her reliable defense in the outfield more than anything, but this season, she's really excelling on the offensive side of the ball as well. She's got an OBP above .500 and has scored 3 times so far this season. If there was a fantasy kickball league, she would be a great pick up off the waiver wire if available.
  • Huge congrats to Rumspringa's Nikki Hisler and Rusty Wallace for tying the knot on Saturday!
  • The KILFs continue to impress. They've taken care of business and are now the only undefeated team remaining in the league. How long can they continue this streak? This week they'll square off against the 4-1 Foul Balls in one of the marquee match ups of this young season.
  • Nothing much to say about the Cardiac/JFK game other than JC Cashwell is still every bit as dominate on the mound as he's ever been. The CA kickers were off balance all night thanks to the hard throwing veteran lefty.
