Welcome back! Spring 2016 Bar Buzz Style

How long has it been since you gathered with the most fun people in Hampton Roads? Sunday practice? Freedom Friday? Did you freeze with friends in the Raptor league? Have some of you really been hibernating since November?  Regardless of how long it may have been since we have seen each other, I hope you have the same sense of exhilaration that I do when you walk out on to War Memorial Field.

You feel the anticipation of reuniting with teammates and old friends. You feel anxious as you encounter new faces. Elation overcomes you when you find your first familiar face and catch up a bit. Your nerves get the better of you as you realize the person heading your way is calling your name. Where do you know this person from? Oh yeah, you met a few times last season. What is his name?! You're probably Facebook friends. Fortunately it comes to you at the last minute. "Hey, Steve, how's it going?" "Catch you at Tapps." Now on to find your team. What field are you playing on? Did you even look? Doesn't matter, they change the numbering system after every game. Finally, you find some people in your team's shirt color. Wait a second, who are those people? That's right, half your team waited until the last minute to sign up and you lost your color. That slight frustration quickly subsides when you find your team for real this time. The happiness returns, all is right in the world.

By the time you finish your game the wacky wonderful world of WAKA feels like home again. Of course the next stop is Tapps. Seriously, you're going to Tapps. Even if only for 5 minutes, you're going to Tapps. Tapps is the wonderland where your love of kickball gets cemented. Kickball is a fun game, but it is the people in WAKA that can take any simple childhood game and turn it in to an obsession. You will survive your 5am workout. Your pets and children can wait just a few more minutes. You signed up because you wanted to meet new people. The afterparty is where that really happens.  Which brings us to why you are reading this blog at all.

You're probably kinda new or you would have already skipped over all this to find out who will be getting the Bar Buzz belt the first week. I won't keep you much longer. We had a meet and greet with an amazing amount of people coming out to the field and to the bar. There were lots of new faces that look eager to make lots of new friends. To start off the season though, I found the K.I.L.F.s making the biggest effort to bring the party back to life. Way to set the bar guys!
