2018 CLUBWAKA Kicks Cancer - Info Packet

Thank you for joining us for the 2018 CLUBWAKA Kicks Cancer Charity Kickball Tournament to benefit the Sentara Cancer Network Mission Funds! On Saturday, kickball fanatics from all over Virginia will come together to do what we love, raise money to support the victims of cancer, fund critical research to find a cure, and honor the memories of those who have lost the fight. Inside this post you will find all of the information for this weekend's big event. As you read through the packet, if you have any questions or need anything clarified, please don't hesitate to reach out to Anna Rigg at arigg@kickball.com. Thank you again for joining us on Saturday. Together, we will kick cancer!

ABOUT THE CHARITY

Contributions to the Sentara Cancer Network Mission Fund assist patients who are in need of medications and supplies not covered by insurance. Cancer education pamphlets, books, support group meetings, and other supportive programs (art therapy, education classes, etc.) are also funded with these generous contributions.

“Sentara Cancer Network is excited and honored to be the recipient of the proceeds from this charity kickball tournament for the second year in a row! We want to take the opportunity during the tournament to recognize and uplift our survivors and honor those who we may have lost to cancer. We encourage anyone who’s battling or beaten cancer to wear a Survivor Sticker [Available at the check-in table]. We will also have message cards for anyone and everyone to write a message to someone they’ve lost or someone who’s been affected by cancer – Sentara Cancer Network will be making a collage out of all the messages from the tournament, so leave your mark!”

'F CANCER CHALLENGE'

Be sure to complete some 'day of' fun challenges to secure points for your team. These new challenges are...

  • TEAM SPIRIT CHALLENGE [50 POINTS]: Have your team create a 'team banner' using the supplies provided (each team will receive a banner size piece of fabric and craft materials to decorate) for an extra 50 points. In order to receive these points, your team must take a team photo with your completed banner. Share this photo to the event page! [Pro tip: Perhaps you can utilize your team's bye round to create this!!!]
  • TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP CHALLENGE [30 POINTS]: During your bye round, have your team create an original cheer on behalf of another team. Post a video to the event page of your team performing this cheer in order to secure points.
  • TEAM DINNER CHALLENGE [20 POINTS]: Who doesn't love some good ol' team bonding over some delicious pizza?!?! Post a picture of your team eating some delicious pizza from our awesome sponsor, Papa John's of Hampton Roads, to the event page and receive 20 extra points for your team.
Don't forget that the FUNDRAISING aspect of this challenge is still going on. The morning of the tournament, each team will receive an envelope to utilize to house any money they raise during the tournament. All teams MUST turn this into Anna or Brent before leaving the fields with any money you wish to donate. This will count as your team's final contribution and will be used to determine the points awarded for the fundraising aspect of this challenge.

The winning team will receive CLUBWAKA Kicks Cancer Socks courtesy of KBS Apparel AND each team member will receive a $10 CLUBWAKA coupon.

FIELD POLICIES

The park is owned and operated by the City of Hampton and is subject to all applicable laws and regulations set by Parks and Recreation.

The main point of reference is to alcohol. The consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited on city park property. It’s important that all individuals be responsible and avoid openly drinking. We don’t want to do anything that would put our event at risk this year or in the future. Be sure to take all of your related trash with you. Teams will be provided with trash bags by CLUBWAKA.

All players are advised to bring snacks, waters, and food as options surrounding the fields are limited

Directions to Briarfield Park: 1560 Briarfield Rd, Hampton, VA 23666

SCHEDULE

Each team is scheduled for 3 “pool play” games beginning at 9 AM. The top 8 teams at the end of the round robin will advance to a single elimination tournament beginning immediately at 2:30 PM.

  • Tie Breakers: We will follow the tiebreaker guidelines as published on the event standings page.
  • Time Limits: Each game will be 5 innings or 50 minutes in length, whichever comes first. With a full day of kickball on the slate, it’s important to make every effort to remain on schedule.
  • Bye Rounds: Each team has one bye during the day, during which they will be required to provide up to 3 volunteers to referee additional games.  Please refer to the referee assignments on the schedule.

ROSTERS

Full rosters for each team can be found online here

WEATHER

If you have even taken a glance at any weather forecasts, you may have noticed that the weather looks a little iffy. So I figured I would go ahead and address this now. We plan to play RAIN or SHINE (let's hope for some serious sunshine, though). So come prepared to get wet. Bring changes of socks, shirts, clothes, or whatever else you might think of. You'd probably be everyone's favorite person if you brought some extra rain ponchos... just saying. Be sure to check out the weather forecast!

SAFETY

We hope everyone has a safe day of kickball on Saturday, but in the event that someone does get hurt, Tidewater Orthopedics will be providing on-site medical professionals to help support and aid our players. If the injury is serious (or if you ever have a serious injury), Tidewater Ortho is the best place to go. They are the preferred provider for Sentara and many of the top colleges go to Tidewater Ortho to get their athletes back on the field. The best part is that their Same Day Sports Medicine clinic will guarantee that you are seen fast.

RULES

The tournament will be officiated with the standard CLUBWAKA Rules of Kickball, with a few modifications for tournament play (see page 6 of the CLUBWAKA Founders Cup Guidelines)
