We actually got to play this game called "kickball" on Saturday. After 2 weeks off because of the never-ending rain in Hampton Roads, it had cleared up just enough for us to get a doubleheader in. All things being equal, we would have called Saturday's game because of the wet field conditions, but there was no way I was going to go for three weeks without this great game if it could be helped. Thank you to everyone who had a great attitude in the elements. This weekend was a blast!
Some people had unique ways of staying warm on the sidelines:
On to the Results:
UNSUPERVISED 10, PURPLE NURPLES 3
Purple had hoped to move to a first-place tie with a win over top-ranked Unsupervised. It was not to be though as the Unsups came out firing on all cylinders, scoring about 5 or 6 in the first inning before cruising to the win.
TBD 4, FETCH 3
Fetch is showing week over week improvement, as this was a closer game than when these two teams played on February 9th. They still weren't able to overcome Bryan Freed's squad, however.
UNSUPERVISED 9, TBD 3
Unsupervised moved to 5-0 and 2 games ahead on the standings with 3-4 games remaining. Whenever TBD seriously threatened to close the gap, Unsupervised would slam the door shut with lockdown defense. Probably the highlight of the day was a beautiful kick pass by Unsup charger Will Menzies to finish the 4th inning.
PURPLE NURPLES 10, FETCH 4
Fueled by cinnamon-flavored whiskey, Purple was on Fire (ball) in game two. Fetch was not able to contain the Nurps' explosive offense. Head Coach Amelia Carey switched up the offense a bit by rewarding those players with superior knowledge of the 2004 teen comedy "Mean Girls" with higher spots in the lineup. The result was the most productive game to date, lead by Kaitlin Slimak's 2 RKI and Run Scored.
NOTE: Let me know what happened in your games each week and make sure your teammates get recognized. These lazy recaps are 50% me reading the weekly shoutout threads in the Facebook group.
COUNTY GRILL
The manager told me on Saturday that they really missed us during the two rain weeks. And from the looks of the turnout, we really missed them too. Thank you all for continuing to support our outstanding postgame clubhouse!
MVPS
Shoutout to Matt Crawford, Christina Obershaw, Nathan Huffman, and Lisa Fabila for officiating our mudball.
HIGHLIGHTS
I bought a new toy and tried it out for the first time. I think I got some good shots with it. Check out a 3-minute highlight video from Saturday's Unsupervised double header!
WEATHER
We're a bit out, but the early forecasts are looking good for this weekend. We'll confirm a doubleheader added to the schedule by Wednesday, so look for updates midweek.
SPRING LEAGUES
We're about 6-weeks out from spring kickball. Don't forget to register!
Of course, if you want to try something other than kickball, we got you covered. Volleyball, bowling, flag football, softball - Spring leagues open at clubwaka.com.
