Welcome to Monday Night Kickball - Spring 2019

Clocks already jumped forward an hour and flowers are blooming. That can only mean one thing, Monday Night Kickball is back for the Spring season!

We'll have seven teams this Spring. Some old, some new, and some reforming.

After seeing that picture you might be asking yourself, "When do I get my very own stunningly fashionable CLUBWAKA  t-shirt?
The bar logo t-shirts have already arrived. Everyone who was on a team and signed up early enough will get one of those. The bulk of the standard t-shirts (everyone who was on a team by last Monday) will have theirs arrive this Monday. I'll be waiting until the last minute to make it to the fields so hopefully I'll have them arrive at my door before I have to leave. If you signed up late or were placed on team after last Monday I'll have your shirts next week.

We play at Bayville Farms Park and our games start promptly at 6:30pm and 7:30pm. Make sure to park near the ball fields, tennis courts, or basketball courts. Do NOT park in the wooded parking area as that gate closes earlier than the rest of the park. General park guidelines include use of red solo cups and koozies for your favorite beverages, utilizing proper trash receptacles, and obeying posted signs about no dogs on the field. The park has been pretty stringent regarding dogs the past couple seasons. We'll be playing our games on the "Lot" and "Swamp" fields marked below. Most of you are used to my hand painted lines however, we'll be without them for the early part of the season as the park staff has requested no additional lines be painted while they have tournaments going on early this month.

What do I need for games?
Team t-shirt. Not only will you need it for games, it gets you access to the sponsor bar specials on game nights. Beverage of choice. Many players bring water to drink as the weather warms up, others bring...not-water. Cleats are HIGHLY recommended, but not required. Metal spikes are NOT allowed.

Do you do anything besides just play kickball?
Of course! In addition to our games we have a full schedule of social activities including weekly bar games, theme nights, and photo challenges. Ella will once again be back as the social coordinator and making sure we have more things to do other than just play kickball. If you like Game of Thrones don't forget about our watch party on Sundays during the final season.

The season webpage is your go-to location to find everything from rules and schedules to social media links. If you only bookmark one page, make it this one.

So where do I go after games are over?
You most definitely want to head to our sponsor bar Bucketheads after the games. Awesome specials, live music, karaoke, and of course bar games. It's right down the road just minutes away!

Can you really argue with specials like half off burgers, $5 Bud Light pitchers, $4 Narragansett pitchers, and more? I know I'll be there every night.

Rules, Rule Changes, and Referees
As with any sport, rules are important and can often be hard to call on-the-fly in the middle of a game. I recommend everyone read the rules at least once. As it turns out, disagreement over a call in the game is often due to someone not being familiar with the rules. The other times come from close or missed calls by a referee. It's important to remember that referees are only human and even professional referees make mistakes (anyone remember that Saints/Rams game?). Let your captain handle any discussion with the referee and remember that you could very easily be the referee in the next game.

On the subject of rules we have a few changes for 2019.
  1. Increase from 5 innings to 7 innings, games still have a hard time limit. Each game needs to be completed within it's hour block 6:30-7:30pm and 7:30-8:30pm.
  2. Foul count reduced from 4 to 3. A kicker is now out on the 3rd foul ball.
  3. Players in the field reduced from 11 to 10, minimum 4 of each gender.
  4. Kicks made by guys have to reach the 1st/3rd diagonal (encroachment line). However, the defense is allowed to play the ball if they wish. The head ref should call a foul/dead ball when the ball has stopped moving and didn't reach the 1st/3rd diagonal.
