#WAKAWednesday - Week 3 Recap

If you think the writing on Game of Thrones was lazy, you haven't seen anything yet. Behold your weekly #WAKAWednesday recap.

PBJT 0, BOOS ON FIRST 0

I was the head ref for this game so I got to witness a true defensive battle firsthand. The Boos on First defense, specifically the outfielders are incredibly athletic and sure handed. If you don't keep your kicks low and hard, they're going to get under it and make the catch. There were tons of highlight plays (wish I would've been filming instead of reffing tbh) including a diving catch by Garrett Getshow to rob a Jelly kicker.

On the flip side, the Jelly defense was equally as good in this game. What stood out for me was their use of 4 different pitchers, Casey Heck, Shane Chambers, Alex Jackson, and John Vrooman. All of these individuals have their unique style and the different looks kept the BoF offense unbalanced all evening long.

F3B 10, PUMPED UP KICKS 2

It's not easy being the new team sometimes, but Pumped Up Kicks is showing some signs of improvement. Megan Hine stood out in the loss. Ref Mike Cogan said afterward, "Home girl with the sunglasses on the green team amde a couple of clutch catches and got on base every at bad. Megan is a badass!"

F3B 8, BOOS ON FIRST 2

No, this isn't just copied and pasted from last week. The rematch between these two teams ended up being pretty much the same. The Boos on First defense, which was so spectacular against PBJT in the 6:30 hour, showed some cracks. And if you give F3B just a little bit of daylight, they're going to take advantage. Great bounce back from F3B this week to sweep their double header and claim sole possession of first place.

PBJT 4, RUMSPRINGA 2

The last time these two teams squared off, it was in November during the finals of the Wentworth Trophy® Championship tournament. Rumspringa earned their first title that day defeating PBJT, 4-2. In small manner of revenge, the Jellies flipped the table on 'Springa and earned a hard fought 4-2 victory. Much of the game was live streamed on the CLUBWAKA Hampton Roads Facebook page if you'd like to check out the action.

WEEK 4 PREVIEW

PBJT (3-1-1) vs BOOS ON FIRST (1-2-2)

The O/U on this game is 0.5 runs.

RUMSPRINGA (2-1-1) vs. PUMPED UP KICKS (0-5)

F3B vs. PUMPED UP KICKS (0-5)

The Kicks will have their hands full with a tough double header. While a win in either game seems unlikely, look for lime green to continue their improvement as they get more experience.

RUMSPRINGA (2-1-1) vs. PBJT (3-1-1)

"The rivalry between purple and blue has been renewed," Rumspringa pitcher Matt Wellbrock said after last week's loss. He also said a lot of other things that I can't repeat on this PG13 blog.

To quote Bray Wyatt, "YOWIE WOWIE!"

SUMMER DRAFT LEAGUE

Registration is OPEN for our Summer Draft league in Hampton! This is a unique kickball league in that the majority of players join as free agents and are selected by captains in a draft party to fill out the rosters! It really mixes it up by balancing out the playing field and giving people the opportunity to meet and play with new teammates!

  • Games are on Wednesday nights starting July 10th
  • Location: Briarfield Park in Hampton
  • Postgame Sponsor Announcement is coming soon!
  • 6-week season, which is the perfect bridge between spring and fall seasons

CHARITY SAND KICKBALL TOURNAMENT

We're taking the game to the beach with a CHARITY SAND KICKBALL TOURNAMENT to benefit the Sentara Foundation. Because we're playing on the beach, we'll be using a bigger ball, shorter base paths and dropping the fielders to 8 (4 male & 4 females). This is part of the North American Sand Soccer Weekend, so the Oceanfront is going to be the place to be! For full details and to join, please visit  https://www.clubwaka.com/hampton-roads/kickball/saturday/4512.

No Top 5 this week. Sorry, I was too busy reffing and playing to get great footage. But I will leave you with this tremendous effort from Rumspringa's Kecia Holmes and Daniel Shaw.

Marsha Jackson hustled hard to beat the throw, but this is still tremendous effort from the 'Springa infielders. TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAMWORK.

I'm out this week everyone so PLEASE please, be sure to take some photos and videos. Share your shout outs in the Facebook page. I still plan on writing the blog this week, but will need some help. Also, I'm a machochist who wants to feel as much FOMO as possible. Lay it on me.

Thanks!

Brent
