Hampton Bowling - End of Season Notes and Superlatives

What a great season of CLUBWAKA Bowling! So many fun games, awesome people, friendly competition, and silly bar challenges. Congratulations to FLAME THROWERS for earning the Domestic Beer Trophy and MINE'S IN THE GUTTER for taking home the Cup Trophy!

As we conclude another fine Sunday session, I want to take a minute to recognize some of the top performers of the Spring.

PLAYOFF MVPS

DOMESTIC BEER TROPHY: CAROLE STERLING, FLAME THROWERS

The two Chrises, Tucker and Granados, were both terrific in the playoffs, averaging 173-174 pins in the four games, but the most valuable player nod goes to Carole Sterling. During the regular season, Carole averaged 135.33 pins per game. In the playoffs, she jumped up to 159, including a 189 in game 3 to slam the door shut on the Non-Golfers hopes. If Carole had just maintained her respectable regular season average, Flame Throwers would have had 90 fewer pins and one less championship.

CUP TROPHY: TEDDY PHILLIPS, MINE'S IN THE GUTTER

It's not easy being the anchor, especially in the playoffs when the pressure is on. Mine's In The Gutter needed every single one of Teddy's 206 pins in game four in order to defeat Split Happens by just a single point! WOW! But Teddy wasn't just good in game four, he averaged 169 pins in the playoffs, leading MITG to the Cup.

SPRING 2019 SEASON AWARDS

MALE MVP: GUY SUMRELL, RUMSLINGAS

With perhaps the smoothest mechanics in all of the Peninsula, Guy's 184.2 average set the standard for all bowlers in the league. If it weren't for a couple of missed weeks, Guy probably would have lead the Rumslingas into the top playoffs, as the team scored an average of 220 pins better in the four weeks he was present.

Kristen's 159.6 average was 10 pins higher than the next female bowler this season. The southpaw's incredible consistency from week to week was the driving force behind the Non-Golfer's runner up season.

MOST IMPROVED FEMALE: ASHANTI SAMUEL, WE DON'T GIVE A SPLIT

This could also be the 'Comeback Player of the Year' Award. Ashanti fought through some nagging injuries in the winter which definitely took a toll on her average. In the spring, she returned better than ever posting a CLUBWAKA career high of 98.4, which was 18 pins higher than her winter average.

MOST IMPROVED MALE: ZACHARY WILSON, THE PIN-CREDIBLES

Zach already ranked in the top 1/3 of the league's top bowlers headed into the spring. This season he took a leap up. Finding more consistency, his averaged jumped from a 164.6 up to 182.5. Zachary's 275 game in week 6 was the highest individual game this season and helped launch him toward the Most Improved award.

MALE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: JAMES TIERNEY, SPARE ME

James made a splash in his first season of CLUBWAKA bowling! His 172.6 average was 5th best in the league and tops among all first time members.

In addition to a 139.5 average, tops among new women players, Tracy was a consistent participant in the weekly bar competitions, helping to lead the Trekkies to the first ever Social Championship!

As we wind down to the end of the blog, it's an obligatory plug. Don't forget to sign up for summer league. We are back in action on July 7th, so it's not a long break at all. Get registered at https://www.clubwaka.com/hampton-roads/bowling/sunday/4852

If you don't play this season, than you'll have no one else to blame but yourself when Obviously Not Golfers wins a 3rd consecutive Summer League title and I brag about it endlessly. Somebody stop me. Please.

In closing, I'd like to leave you with a 3-minute long supercut of strikes from this season set to the 1812 William Tell Overture. Enjoy.
