WAKA Kicks Cancer - Egg Dash!

Today about 40 VA Peninsula kickballers came together and participated in a Easter Egg/Scavenger Hunt organized by the WAKA Kicks Cancer Relay for Life team! The event which benefits the American Cancer Society raised over $250 to help fight cancer!

Team Taymily took home the first place prize pack!
After making a small donation, the players split up into teams of 3-5 people, and were given their first clues. From there, the teams dashed out of the War Memorial parking lot on a quest to collect all the eggs from around Hampton Roads.

Congratulations to Chris "Bundy" LeBlanc (VD), Emily Ross Cook (CG), Taylor Wilson (CT), and Jeff "The SmoothOperator" White (5OC) for winning the contest! Their team took first place after successfully finding all 6 egg locations in approximately 45 minutes!

The top three teams were awarded prize packs that included free one night stays at an Embassy Suites hotel, gift cards to local restaurants (Cheeseburger in Paradise, Andersons), WAKA pint glasses, koozies, and more (even a breathalyser was included in one of the prize packs!).

While Taymily's team finished in about 45 minutes, other teams didn't fare so well. A team that included the 5 O'Clockers Britney Travis, Lindsay Schrull, and Courtney Travis didn't get back to War Memorial until well after 2 hours. But in fairness, they had an excuse. While on route to one of the clues, they witnessed a motorcycle accident and selfishly stopped to help. For sacrificing their chance at winning for helping a stranger in need, Taymily, Jeff, and Bundy decided to give their Cheeseburger in Paradise gift cards to the Clockers... Which reminded me of the time Harry Potter was competing in the TriWizard Tournament and stopped to help the girl who was drowning in the lake. Sure it cost him some time and he didn't win, but because of his good deed, Dumbledore gave him 2nd place for "outstanding moral fiber".

Awesome work, Andrea and Melissa!
All in all, it was a very fun event that benefited a great cause. I want to thank Andrea Hoffman, Melissa Rarick, and all of the volunteers from Chicken Tetrazzini and the Chubby Gangsters for their hard work. Great job everyone!

If you couldn't make it to the Egg Dash, but would still love to support the cause, please consider donating to our team at http://main.acsevents.org/goto/WAKA. (Remember, if you donate to Brent's page this week, you'll earn a chance to be featured on your very own GMOT cover!
