5 O'Clockers (2-1) vs. Chubby Gangsters (2-0)
|
The CGs' Jeffrey Scott delivers a strike. |
If it wasn't for the big #1 vs. #2 matchup later in the night, this would be the game of the week. This is the 4th season for the Chubby Gangsters, and they've improved each year. When they first started, they were the laughingstock of the league. Now? Captain
Buster Patterson has put together one of the better squads in the league and have aspirations for the Wentworth Trophy. Coming fresh off of a big victory of the Jagernauts in week 2, they have another stiff challenge in the newly reborn 5 O'Clockers. The Clockers looked dominant in their convincing 4-0 win over Rumspringa last week. The odds are this will be a very competitive game between two evenly matched teams. The one that can avoid the crucial mistake will probably come away with the win.

The reborn 5 O'Clockers: better than ever? |
Just For Kicks (0-2) vs. Rumspringa (0-2-1)
|
The always confident JC Cashwell will look to lead JFK to their first win. |
Don't let the records fool you. These two teams are among the best. The fact is that they've both had extremely difficult schedules to start the season. JFK has lost close games to the VIPs and VD, while Rumspringa started their season with losses to VD and the Clockers, before pulling out a tie against the VIPs... Both teams will be hungry for their first win of the season, but in order to do so, their offenses will have to wake up. Combined JFK and Rumspringa have only 2 runs in 5 games. Conventional wisdom would tell you that this will be a low scoring affair, but I wouldn't be surprised to see
Bryan Freed and
Scott Moriarty push their players to be aggressive in an effort to put some all important runs on the board... This is a rematch from the Fall 2010 Tournament Semi-Finals. In that match up, often referred to as Springas' coming out party, they took JFK to the limit. Just For Kicks advanced to the finals, but it took 7 intense innings to dispatch the upstart Rumspringas.

Jagernauts (2-1) vs. Off in the Corner (0-3)
|
Dottie Wood and Justin Arrington share a high five
after Wood's highlight play at 2nd. |
This season there has been more beating Off in the Corner than the last guy in a gangbang video. In their 3 losses, they've been outscored 40 runs to 3. The Jagernauts meanwhile, have done nothing but play in tight games, with each game decided by just 2 runs each. OitC has some talented players on their team, so it's only a matter of time before they put it all together. This may be the week the former TailGators break out and play a close one. Or just as likely, this may be the first week, the aggressive Jagernaut offense lays the smackdown.
Foul Balls (2-1) vs. Chicken Tetrazzini (1-1)
|
DP looks to roll CT back into the win column. |
Which two teams will show up? Will the Foul Balls team that swept their double header in week 1 show up, or will the Foul Balls team that was more focused on
winning the Bar Buzz and not their game last week show up? Will the Chicken Tetrazzini team that easily disposed of Battlestar Ballsacktica in week 1 show up? Or will the CT team that couldn't crack the Knuckles' defense last week show up?
Moose Knuckles (2-1) vs. Jiminy Kick-It (1-1)
The Peninsulas two newest teams square off this week, in what should be a fun matchup. Both teams have picked up the game of kickball pretty quickly, earning wins over more experienced teams this early in the season. But at the same time, they're both still learning. I expect that this will be a wild back and forth game that will be sloppy at times, but could go either way.

Catcher Justin Blair comes up gunning for first. |
The Emperors Club (1-0-1) vs. Vicious & Delicious (2-0)
|
Roger Jackson hustles down the line. |
Chris "Bundy" LeBlanc and
Dave "Bubby" Dixon helped The Emperors Club win their fourth Wentworth Trophy in the Fall, before deciding to go forge their own way in the off season. Their mission: to assemble a team of great kickballers to topple the mighty VIP dynasty. To accomplish this goal, they recruited some of the best players from JFK and the now defunct Victorious Secret to join them. The early returns show that they have created quite the formidable squad, earning impressive wins against JFK and Rumspringa early. The unanimous #1 team on the Peninsula, as voted on by a panel of kickball experts, will have their first shot at the team they were built to destroy this week... For the VIPs, they are looking to get their prolific offense back on track after struggling mightily against Rumspringa last week. It'll be a tough task to do so against a VD defense that has excellent skill players at charger, catcher, and pitcher. Reports are that The Emperors Club had a grueling practice on Sunday where Head Coach
George "SexBox 360" Kiriazidis ran the team through a variety of bunting drills while screaming, "We'll be out here all fucking day until we get this shit right!" We will find out on Wednesday whether or not the tactics paid off.

Joey Smith and Anthony Williams enjoy a friendly jog in week 2. |
Battlestar Ballsacktica (1-1) vs. Saved by the Balls (0-2)
|
Bethany Show strides to first base. |
The Battlestar Ballsacktica got their ship back on the right course with a big win in week 2. This week, they will be looking to take their phasers off stun and will be using Jedi force on the field (suck it, Battlestar Gallactica nerds). The hapless Saved by the Balls are still looking for their first win in franchise history after coming agonizingly close in week 1. If they hope to earn it this week, they'll have to play great, because BB looked tough last week.

Don't bunt it to the dog. |
New Kickheads on the Block (1-1) vs. Jiminy Kick-It (1-1)
This is the 2nd game of a double header for JKI, and it'll be the first time they play more than one game of kickball in a night. Will they have the stamina and endurance (
kickball is after all a very physically taxing game on the liver body) to get a W in the nightcap? NKotB won't make it easy on them. Last week,
Amanda Hassell's speedy squad showed that they can put up runs in bunches. If JKI can find a way to contain
Emmanuel Anderson and company, they have a shot at coming out on top.
Vicious & Delicious (2-0) vs. Foul Balls (2-1)
|
Bundy slides into home safely. |
Don't be surprised if VD puts up a lot of runs in this game and mercy rules Foul Balls in 3 innings (
which just means that the Foulies would be able to get to the bar sooner and defend their Bar Buzz belt).
