Totally Iced!

VA Raptor
recap by Karen Savell, Frosty Ballin

It was mostly a "3 up-3 down" kind of game this past Saturday as All Up in the Bunt and Frosty Ballin' went head to head. There was lots of good defense on both sides and not a lot of kicking action.  The Frosty's were worried about having 5 people out of town participating in the SFKO tournament in Florida, but somehow they managed to plug in the holes nicely with the talented, versatile players that make up the rest of the team. (or it was probably just luck...)

There were some close plays made by both teams as runners tried to get in scoring positions. Frosty Ballin's Dana Pilz had her game on as she made a sweet tag on a runner sliding into third, when Michael Seals tossed it to her for the play. She also got on base for every kick she made! She's hot!! But in the following inning, a throw was made from the outfield meant to go to the pitcher and instead, caught George Kiriazidis (still don't know how to pronounce that) in the legs as he was sliding into home for the winning score. (Dammit!!) At least, the throw didn't LOOK intentional from the Frosty bench... It was a great play, and it was one of the factors that kept the game at a tie. Another was the pitching awesomeness of Mark Flores of the Frosty's. In the 5th inning, his pitching caused kicker Ryan Schmid to foul out with runners on base ready to score. This is the 3rd week in a row that "Golden Arm" Flores has pitched foul outs at crucial moments! Hats off the The Golden Arm!

Both teams were desperate to score, but neither bunting nor kicking away were working against the tight defenses of both teams. Hassan Dubose from the Bunt's even went up to kick with his big lefty self and walloped it into right field.  But Karen Savell used The Force and willed that sucker straight into her arms for another out.

(Yeah, that's right....kick it to the girl! Bring it!!)

The score was a low 2-2 tie with the tight defenses locking horns for the draw....

Interesting Frosty Ballin' stats:
Kickers with 1.000 average for the game: Guy Sumrell, Dana Pilz, and George Kiriazidis
People who scored: I'm sure we've all scored, but that's....Oh! You mean in the game: Guy Sumrell and Dana Pilz.
People who laid a big fat goose egg: almost everyone else...

Team drama...
George later reported that his thong held up well during his slide into home! He recommends....  um... what was that brand again, George??
I asked Dana Pilz what her secret is on how she's got her top game on, on both sides of the ball. She said, "Um....I haven't washed my socks since the beginning of the season."

Frosty Ballin' is looking forward to a triple header next Saturday! It's not going to be easy, but we are so Frosty Ballin' PUMPED!!!
