Ballsacks and Free Ballin Battle to a Draw, 2-2

recap by Karen Savell, Battlestar Ballsacktica

What a rush!! What a week to be a BalllllllllllllllllllSACK!!! Coming off of a loss to the Kick Ass team in last weeks game lead to some heavy drinking and partying like a frickin' rock star! Since I wasn't there, I didn't turn in a write up, but I heard that there were controversial calls in one inning that the KA's ran away with (ALWAYS blame a ref!!) to bring the score to a 5-1 loss for the Ballsacks. My favorite rumor that passed by my ears was the fact that Manny Anderson said he felt confidant that he would never get out this season.... then not 30 seconds later, he bunted and Michael Machie booted it to first for a solid OUT!  I wonder what crow tastes like?! ;)

Anyway, when one loses, one feels the urge to fill the void and drown the sting with the sweet nectar of the gods.....IS IT BEER:30 YET??? You betcha!!! Most of the team headed on over to Luckies to par-TAY! Rumor has it that Peter Kuhr was grinding away on the dance floor with any and everybody. And he may or may not have lost his pants.... that part isn't clear. Nicole Plesha didn't even bother to get to the dance floor.... she thought the bar itself would do just fine! I heard that they almost got kicked out so it must have been pretty wild!!  WILD ENOUGH TO WIN THE BAR BELT!!! Kudos to Battlestar for mingling, partying, and having an awesome time with friends!  We all took turns taking pictures with it and some of the guys even did things to it I can't mention here...use your imagination.... hehe... ok, don't go there!!

On to the game! The Ballsacks took on their rival team Free Ballin' and they were sooooo pumped up, being bar champs and all. They had a plan, man, and it was up to the entire team to stick it to 'em! Since I played with most of them on the Frosty Ballin' team during the winter league, I knew almost all of them, which was really weird.... and fun! 3 of our Ballsack teammates abandoned us this week... one had to work, one had to do their hair and one is in Haiti building houses... What?? I understand having to do your hair, but.... building homes?! Where is it written that Haitians have to have homes?! Get yer butt back to playing kickball where you belong Philip Tanner!!! I expect we'll get a kickball jersey photo pose from Haiti soon, anyway...

So, the first inning was kind of a flop for the Ballsacks.  Mark "Golden Arm" Flores was pitching some mean ones as usual. We got a few on base but didn't score. Our defense held up well throughout the game, though. Not many miscues or mistakes. There were several great plays we made.  Michael "The Machine" Machie did his world famous Machie Maneuver, where there was a runner on 1st and the kicker popped up a bunt. He caught it and like lightning, he threw it to first to catch the runner off base for a double play.  (I LOVE it when he does that!) Then in the second inning FB scored a run (Crap!), but that's ok because the Ballsacks came back with 2 runs in the same inning by Michael Machie and Erin Herring. Several miscues by Free Ballin' allowed for some very important runs for BB. With the score at 2-1, BB was well on its way for a sweet win... the defense was scooping them up and the BB outfield shut them down totally with catches made by Jason Wieszek and Karen Savell. Joe "Sticky Fingers" Stumpo was hanging on to all those wicked throws to 1st and never dropped a single one. And George Kiriazidis and Andy Tapley were pitching strong.  We were gellin' like a felon! (Want some melon? Where's Helen?)

In the top of the 5th inning Battlestar almost put this game away when Nicole came over home plate for another run, but an out at 3rd that was made milliseconds before Nicole stepped on the plate made that run null and void. (Dammit!)

The bottom of the last inning was the MOST exciting inning of all! With the score at 2-1, the Ballsacks had the chance to shut FB down for a win.  But FB had strong kickers coming up in the line up and we knew it wouldn't be easy. Two kickers got on base safely with no outs (shudder), one at 1st and one advanced to 3rd. The ball was kicked away for a sac-fly to make the score 2-2 with only one out (nail biter!). Another kicker got on base to where there were runners on 1st and 2nd (oh, sh**!) We were ready for the kick away and knew we had to bring it in fast to keep them from scoring....so what happens??

(..........Pause for effect........)

(....pause some more....)

They kick away to mid left field where Jason Wieszek was waiting for it. He caught it for out #2! But wait....JP Wilkinson decided to make a risky move and tag up on 2nd and run like hell to 3rd. Jason threw to the 3rd baseman Nicole Plesha where she promptly catches it and slams it down into JP as he's sliding into 3rd and TAGS HIS ASS OUT!!!!! Wait, actually it was his face! A nice big, fat, red-ball FACIAL! (It was a legal hit since he was sliding, by the way...) The double play ends the game and leaves Free Ballin' with yet another tie. (Tie #3??? So it's YOU guys who keep messing up the gambling lines!! Grrrrr)

So, there you go! Some "piss in your pants" excitement!! Battlestar held on as Free Ballin' scratched their way out of a loss.

Let me tell you what...Battlestar's defense is sound. Strong players in positions they are comfortable with makes this team come together nicely and I wouldn't be surprised if the Ballsacks wind up in the top 5 this season. Just a little more work and BAM, we're in like Flin...There, I said it!

BalllllllllllllllllllSACKS!!!!!!
