recap by Karen Savell, Battlestar Ballsacktica
What a night to remember! The Ballsacks came out on top of both their games against the Crickets and Moose Knuckles. Yeah, they were won by only one point for each game, but a win is a win, right?! And hey... you know how it seems like every game has that one inning where the defense shoots itself in the foot and makes silly mistakes and blows the game? (Ya'll know what I'm talking about!) Well, that DIDN'T happen for the Ballsacks Wednesday night! The defense held tight on both games and what REALLY rocked is the ladies stepped up their game to help make it all happen! Ohhh Emmmm Geeeeee, these were fun games!
Jiminy Kick It came off a win and they were hyped for round two, but the Ballsacks were coming off of their first win from a few weeks ago and really enjoyed the sweet taste of victory. Battlestar hungered for more as their defense held the Crickets to just 1 run for the entire game. JKI kept leaving ducks on the pond as Battlestar's defense sucked up bunts and flys left and right to hold the game to a close score. Nicole Plesha caught a fly on the run in right field for a sweet out. Stephanie Wacek, Erin Herring, and Alison Easterday held their ground at middle field making plays at 2nd like they frickin' OWN that base, baby! And Karen Savell (3rd person alert! By the way...She's been dubbed "The Silent Killer" by the ladies of the BOB Podcast!) caught a ball that was kicked away into right field... or was it?! That sucker was high, but by the time The Silent Killer actually caught the ball, she was in the infield. The ladies ROCKED IT! Final score 2-1 Battlestar!!
On to round 2! The Ballsacks FINALLY got to play the rainout of the rainout game that was rained out... or something like that... It was a late 9:30 make up game and the excitement of this game was even better! The game was moved to the muddiest part of the field, of course... Field 3! Blehhhh!! The Moose Knuckles pitchers Jesse Jones and Garrett Davis rocked the mound with some sick pitches! Battlestar scored 1st with 1 run in the first inning, then the MK's stepped up on defense and made it difficult to score. The score was 1-1 in the third inning when all of a sudden the home ref, Commish Brent Wentworth made a beeline across the field... we could only assume that his bladder reached its full potential and had to be expressed post haste. (OK, he had to take a piss real quick like!) Finally, Brent "Twinkle Toes" Buttworth, with beer still in hand, sprinted full speed back to his position behind the plate ALL without spilling a drop. Now THAT my friends is TALENT!! Ok, back to the game... Andy Tapley and George Kiriazidis were throwing great pitches all game and Jason Lantz was making some sweet catches in left field all night. Smart base running by Michael Machie, Phil Tanner, and Brandon Silver got things going. (Dudes were diving all over the place! Brandon made a dive for 1st and got called out, and then George tried to dive at home plate and was tagged out. Hmmmm, note to self: Diving=bad. Apparently all it gets you is muddy and injured. Brandon's got a nice war wound on his knee and George got a belly full of mud!) Denny Leonard was making throws spot on from the charger position to Joe Stumpo at 1st, and The Silent Killer (refer to first paragraph) struck again as she made a sliding catch in right field to get under a low line drive. (MUDBALLLL!!!! Yeah!!) Sweet!!
The score was 2-1 going into the 5th inning and Battlestar had to turn it on if they wanted a win. So George talked with all the upcoming kickers and laid out a plan, man! The middle of the line up stepped up and did their business as discussed and Denny Leonard was the winning run who came in off a single from George to win the game! Wow! Ballsacks won 3-2!
George later stated "Speaking of ladies making plays, I would like to take a moment to point out what an awesome job the girls are doing. Our middle infielders (Stephanie, Erin, Alison) are doing a great job of breaking to the bag to cover second. Alison stepped it up for us and played third for us where she did a great job. Plesha got the job done in the OF when we needed her to fill in for Karen and made some nice catches. Karen made a 2012 VA Peninsula Top 10 Highlight reel catch in right on a ball that was filthy and muddy. All I can say is great job ladies, you all had me really hyped up to watch all of you play last night and really come through!!"
Well that calls for a celebration, right?! Right! A lot of the Ballsacks went to Luckies, including yours truly! Yeah, I gave up the dull, boring responsible life for a while and let loose to par-TAY on this awesome occasion! Everyone wanted to pose for photos with The Silent Killer since its so RARE that I get to party with my peeps! It was an interesting night, I'll have to admit! I had a few drinks and was in the middle of watching basketball and talking with fellow kickballers when I turned around and actually saw "Jesus" walk out of the men's bathroom! I'm still debating on whether or not I'll order that same drink ever again... anyway, The Silent Killer actually stayed long enough to participate in the After Midnight Photo! Uh, then Jesus appeared before me again during that time and posed in the photo somewhere nearby. It was kind of creepy with all these miracles happening that night with him appearing and The Silent Killer actually making it to Luckies. Speaking of miracles......

Jason and Natalie Weiszek have made it known that there is a new baby Ballsack on the way! Congratulations Jason and Natalie!!! (Yep, that's why Natalie sat out this season! ;) ) The baby Ballsack is due in November! Come give Jason a hand shake and an "Atta boy!' pat on the back! (The baby's gender is unknown at this time. 2ND ANNOUNCEMENT ALERT!!
Stephanie Wacek has accepted a new teaching job...... in Malaysia!! She will be teaching there for 2 years and she leaves as soon as August. She'll finish out this season and will hang up her cleats for a while as her life takes her through new adventures in foreign lands. She will be sorely missed by the Ballsacks!! (Peter Kuhr has actually been sobbing for weeks.) But we know she is super excited about the whole thing so we wish her the best! Congratulations Stephanie!! Go forth and teach the Malaysian people the wonderful sport of kickball!!!
Ok, that's all the announcements and stuff... except to say that by the time I left Luckies, it was frickin' Thursday!! My ears were ringing from the music and from my awesome kickball peeps shouting and laughing over the music, and my vision was still filled with camera flash spots from photo after photo! It was the end of a great day... and God must be a really big kickball fan to have sent down Jesus! ;)
Thanks for the B.O.B. shoutout!!!
