Fall 2012 - Week 1 Results

Wow. What an opening night! Lots of great action at War Memorial Stadium. Let's run down the results.

Pitch Please 5, Rumspringa 1
Double P debuted in style with an impressive victory against a speedy Rumspringa squad.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time 7, Chubby Gangsters 6
A wild shootout between the Jelly and the Gangsters seemed destined to end in a 6-6 tie. However, thanks to some aggressive baserunning by PBJ's Laura Schmitt, the Jelly secured the thrilling walk off win.

Just For Kicks 3, 5 O'Clockers 1
In the rematch from the Spring '12 finals, JFK took a measure of revenge. The Kennedys took advantage of a few defensive miscues in the 4th to score 3 runs and SP Daniel "The Condor" Shaw shut down the 5OC offensive attack all game.

The Situation 6, Foot Snipers 1
The game was initially a tight 1-1 affair. Until Blake Kalaikai broke it open with a big home run over the right fielder's head. Certainly a great debut for the Situation on the Peninsula. But this may not be the end of the Sitch/Snipey story. Many pundits are predicting that these two squads may see each other again in November with the trophy on the line.

Free Ballin' 5, Battlestar Ballsacktica 4
One of the best rivalries in the league is between Free Ballin' and Battlestar. A rough first inning for the 'Sacks saw them give up 4 runs right away. They fought back, but it wasn't enough and the Ballers won the day, and the bragging rights.

Burning Bridges 2, Kick Ass 2
A tight defensive battle between a couple of preseason favorites. Neither team had much success at the plate. In the 5th inning, the score was locked at 1-1. Nathaniel "Jorts" Johnson sparked a 2 out rally by getting on base and eventually scoring the go ahead run on Drew Marshall's RKI liner to center. The top of the Bridges came right back and manufactured a run in the bottom of the 5th to avoid the loss.

Chicken Tetrazzini 0, Foul Balls 0
Both teams struggled to penetrate their opponents' defenses in a very close contest. Chargers David Show (CT) and Joe Presault (FB) were lights out, gobbling up bunts and firing bullets to first. In the end, the Angry Birds had the bases loaded, but Andrea Hoffman's liner was caught by Dennis Gholson to end the game.

New Kickheads 4, Wasted Talent 1
After going winless last season, the Kickheads didn't wait long to snap the streak. Using aggressive baserunning, they introduced Wasted Talent to the league with a 4-1 win. "We won? We WON!" head coach Amanda Hassell said afterwards in the postgame press conference.
