Offseason News & Notes 8/8/12

Registration is winding down, but there have still been some pretty big offseason moves that deserved to be announced to the kickball world. A few surprises, a few we saw coming, but mostly just a testament to how this league continues to evolve and grow on a seasonal basis.

First move to announce is the 5 O'Clockers acquisition of former Shake 'n Bake captain, Jeffrey Scott. Most league analysts are not too shocked by this move, seeing as how former SnB'ers Brent Wentworth & John Laneave inked a deal earlier in the season to wear black as well. One thing is for sure, if 5OC was worried about their pitching status after losing Dan Reyes to Pitch Please!, they didn't sweat for long by adding depth with Jeffrey.

Chicken Tettrazzini continues to make waves by adding the dynamic duo of Scott & Sabra Moriarty. It may be a little weird not seeing them in Smurf Blue, however the Bar Belt Gold that usually comes along with Angry Bird Pink would be nothing new to them!

After a little drama this offseason surrounding JKI, 2 of their players, Brandon Accordino & Anthony Thornquist, decided they wanted to still play in this great league and opted for free agency. They weren't on the market long. The Chubby Gangsters knew Anthony fill the void left by Geoff Morehart at catcher, and it never hurts to have another talented leg like Brandon's in the line-up.

Foot Snipers may be coming from the southside, but have obviously been scouting Peninsula talent and inked a deal with Patriot Express rookie Derek Chouinard. The MGM connection between him and Justin Shauf must have worked and impressed the powers that be at Foot. He doesn't have the experience yet, but from watching him this summer, he definitely has potential to be an excellent kickballer.

Just For Kicks continues to surprise people this offseason with their recruiting skills. How do you replace Wes McClain as your long time charger? If it can be done, it can be done with Dominique Smith, and that's exactly who JFK went after. Looks like one of the perenial favorites doesn't plan on relinquishing that spot this season.

PBJT wasn't done adding to their roster this year. They were in need of girls and reached out to the Queen of Flair herself, Marilee Columbus. When asked about her feelings on playing with PBJT this season she remarked, "Purple was already on my list of approved colors, so I'm excited."

Pitch Please! continues to bolster their roster with Tom "Sheet Kan" Zupke. The addition of the intensity he brings to the field, and the personality be brings off the field is a plus for any team. Is Pitch Please! Going to contend for a Bar Belt this year??

While Wasted Talent is a predominately Apprentice School Alumni Team, they were looking to add some experience both on the field and at the bar. They reached out to Michael Peele, a rookie this summer with Flock Flame. He has experience now with the Motha Flamers on the field (they scored 2 runs so far!) and definitely has an edge, experience wise, at the bar. He should be a nice fit.

Just a reminder, the first t-shirt order will be place Thursday morning. Wednesday August 8th is your last full day to register to ensure you get a t-shirt with the bar logo and sponsor logo.
