VA Freedom Schedule Released & Updates

Kickballers!

Thank you for signing up for WAKA VA Freedom Kickball this spring in Newport News! We have an exciting season planned, and we're ready to kick it off this weekend! I wanted to cover a few updates and reminders as we approach our opening day (it may be lengthy, so I apologize in advance).

Schedule
The schedule is now posted online and can be viewed on the league website or via a google doc!

• Each team is scheduled for 11 games total.
• We do play in rain, as long as it's not too bad/cold and not lightning. So, don't necessarily assume that we're canceled if it's sprinkling.
• In the event of bad weather, all cancelations or postponements will be communicated by e-mail, twitter, and facebook. Because we do have many players who travel from all over Hampton Roads to play in our league, I'll make every effort to make these decisions as early as possible on the day of the game.
• The WAKA minimum is 8 scheduled games. We are scheduled for 11 games. In the event of a weather cancelation, I will do my best to make up the games in the 3 pm time slots available, but if we do not have the capacity, than it may result in the games not being made up. Because this is a possibility (and because more kickball > less kickball) I have scheduled the extra games.

ReffingPlease note that each team is assigned to ref games through out the season. When you are assigned, your captain will be asked to provide 3 refs per game (home/first/third). Before reffing or playing, please take a moment to review the rules of kickball here.

• At 12:15 PM this week, we will be doing a reffing/rules clinic at Riverview Farm Park prior to the games kicking off. Whether you are a new player or a veteran, you're encouraged to come out and participate. We'll be covering the basic rules of the game and things to watch out for!

FieldsEach week, we will be playing at Riverview Farm Park behind Menchville.

• NOTE: Newport News Parks & Recs has a no alcohol policy at their parks. If you are consuming alcohol in the open, you will be asked to dispose of it or leave. We do not want to lose our privledges to use the field.

SponsorAfter the games, players are encouraged to head over to our sponsor, BRICKHOUSE TAVERN in nearby Port Warwick.

• Specials include $2 domestics, $6 pitchers, and 20 wing buckets for $10!

Spring 2013 Important Dates!

• April 7th, 2013 - First Week of the Regular Season!
• May 5th, 2013 - Cinco De Mayo Theme Week!
• May 12th, 2013 - Mid Season Party! (Location: - Food and Drinks provided by the league after the games!)
• June 9th, 2013 - End of Season Tournament
• June 2013 - End of Season Party (Date/Details TBD)
