Dear Foul Balls Nation,

The Foul Balls are back for their 11th season in WAKA VA Peninsula and their first without manager Jen Nardi who left to run the new Foul Balls franchise in the RI Thunder Division. Trying to fill the void will be Andreas Beyersdorf, who immediately declared that all the players call him ‘Andreas the Greatest.’ Fortunately, he will receive help from a strong core of returning teammates: long-time Foulies Meghan Frum (who along with Gwen helped with the line-up last season), Dennis Gholson (now splitting time between first base and pitcher), Gwen Gorski (fresh off a Toby Keith Bowl appearance), Michael Polanco, Joe Preseault (big props for updating the team logo), and Kristen Saunders. Wade Brock also returns to the Foul Balls after a spring season where he played only two games due to school. Of course the Fouls Balls won more games last season (5) than cumulatively during Wade’s first three seasons with the Foulies (4), so welcome back??? In addition, Nick Garitty returns after a successful rookie season. However to guarantee his return, the Foulers had to cut the person that robbed him of a home run by making a base-running error.

Returning to the Foul Balls after sowing their oats with other teams are Jesse Rogers – who played one season with Dirty Mike & the Boyz – and Derek Patterson – a long-time Chicken Tetrazini member who played with the Foul Ones in Winter ’12. Also joining the Foul Balls are a mix of kickball veterans – Meaghan Dorsey, Lanelle Jamison, Daniela Olsen and Erica Sampson – and new kickball recruits - Colton Casteele, Christina Green (who changed her last name to prove her allegiance to the Kelly Green Foulies), Nikolas Nadal and Bobby Weaver. I would tell you what to expect from them but the fortune cookie I just ate said ‘Keep your plans secret for now’, so you will just have to find out on the field.

Season Highlights:
  • August 28th vs. PJBT – a number of Foulies have played with the ridiculously named Peanut Butter and Jelly Time in other leagues. It will be fun to crush them.
  • October 2nd vs. Ball So Hard – captained by former Fouler Brad Gualt. The Foul Balls were the Fall 2012 Bar Belt Champs but were overlooked last season. If the Foul Balls don’t win the belt early in the upcoming season, look for them to seek revenge against the new Bar Buzz Chief Fagel Baer.
  • October 23rd vs. The Situation – the first ever meeting between these two former Wentworth Trophy winners (only four currently active teams have won it).
  • October 30th vs. Pop Pop – Pop Pop has four Foul Ball cast-offs; I’m glad someone gave them a second chance after I cut them.
  • November 16th – We kick all your asses in the tournament!!!

What to Look For In Fall ’13:
  • How many of the new Foul Ball ladies will Wade scare away? Over/under of 2
  • Will two Meghan/Meaghan’s confuse the team? Andreas proposed that Meaghan Dorsey be called Meaghan, Meghan Frum be called Gwen, and Gwen Gorski be called Meghan-oh-shit-I-mean-Gwen-sorry-I'm-an-asshole. Meghan and Gwen did not like this idea but it’s okay because we’re practically BFFs.
  • Will this be the last season for the Foul Balls in Kelly Green? Will Christina Green need to change her name to Christina Hot Coral?
  • Will the VA Foul Balls recruit a bunch of players from RI Foul Balls to come down just for the tourney? Or vice-versa?
  • What kind of beer will Mike make for the Foul Balls 2013 brew?
  • Will Kristen Saunders exchange her Summer Dog Bowl for a Wentworth Trophy (I checked and it is not a registered trademark so feel free to sell your own Wentworth Trophy merchandise)?

Have an Inning!!!
