KILFs and Kickheads Combine for 4 Home Runs in Chaotic Win
by Eric Schessl
It was a home run derby on Wednesday evening as the NKOTB took on the KILFS in a 7:30pm matchup. NKOTB were coming in off of a win last week and hoping to use that momentum. The KILFS suffered their first loss of the season last week and were looking to rebound.
NKOTB got it going early. Ian Taylor kicked a lead-off home run into right field to start the game.
The scoring didn’t stop there for NKOTB as they managed to get some runners on base. Jason Binns also made it in to score to give NKOTB an early 2-0 lead. Eric “The Bearded” Schessl brought his team in before they took to kicking, hoping to settle his players down and forget those two runs. It must have worked, because Chris Storar went to the plate and kicked a lead-off home run to get the KILFS rolling, but that was the only run they would score.
In the second inning, NKOTB were not able to build on their lead with some solid defense by the KILFS, keeping the game tight. However the KILFS managed to get Ted Phillips on base which set up Brandon Pickering, who kicked a ball deep to RF that was dropped, allowing the two-run homer and a 3-2 lead.
The third inning came, and the Home run Derby continued. Ian Taylor kicked a deep ball to right field that was questionably fair. (Observers would have called it a foul ball). But Ian scored to tie the game at 3. The KILFS answered back, and with runners on the bases, Randall Hammond sent a ball into the outfield for a deep single, but brought in Trish Phillips for a 4-3 lead.
The fourth inning came and went with no scores, as both teams really stepped up their defensive games, trying to build momentum going into the fifth. NKOTB were not able to score any runs in their last effort, and the KILFS hung on to win 4-3.
For week 5, the NKOTB take on Foul Balls and try to rebound, while the KILFS play Balls So Hard and try and keep a winning streak alive.
