And while the franchises are folding, most of the players are not. In fact, this shake up has resulted in an abundance of free agents flooding the market. Let's take a look at some of the most notable.
Casey Heck
Charger - This former Kickin' Atom is nicknamed 'Seattle Jesus'. Seriously, you don't think a guy named Seattle Jesus would be a good addition to any kickball team?
David Chappell
Outfield - His announcement on Facebook today helped inspire this column. Despite his claim to have 'limited skills and a bad attitude', he could be a valuable member of any team looking for a line driving machine.
Allen Walker
First Base - The long time 5 O'Clocker first baseman is shopping for a team for the first time since 2009. Great hands at first, knowledge, experience, and a huge right foot make Walker a hot commodity.
Nathaniel "Jorts" Johnson
Outfielder - This former Pop Popper is fresh off of a 3rd team All-Peninsula nod in the Fall, which makes him a desirable target for captains in need of outfield help. Rumors are that two of his former clubs, Foul Balls and Kick Ass, are in the hunt for Johnson, although that is unconfirmed. One thing is certain, whichever team signs Jorts will receive plenty of airtime on 3 Up 3 Down.
Adam & Andrea Henry
Power couple - Any team that's looking for a versatile all-arounder and a reliable woman can do worse than picking up these two. These two former Chicken Tetrazini's are wonderful teammates to have in the locker room.
J.P. Wilkinson
Utility - It's nice to have someone who actually enjoys reffing on your roster! And he's not bad at kickball either. In a recent interview, Wilkinson expressed his desire to play with a competitive squad. All championship contenders need a gritty role player, and they don't get much grittier than this former Free Baller.
Dom Guarry
Outfielder - Guarry played with Peanut Butter Jelly Time last year, but failed to come to terms on a contract extension for the spring. The veteran outfielder uses his low center of gravity to avoid attempted pegs as he dashes around the base paths. Look for his time on the waiver wire to be short.
McCoy Wood
Utility - One of the legends of the sport. The former captain of the 2010 Founders Cup Champions, Panik Attack and most recently the starting pitcher for the 5 O'Clockers announced after the Fall that he would be retiring from the sport. But if you follow him on twitter, every once in a while you'll see he gets the itch.
@jwupun25 @brent_wentworth @WAKARhodeIsland @McNuggetSays I'm still retired. But it's getting harder to be!
— McCoy Wood (@mccoywood) February 7, 2014
If any charismatic captain can talk Wood out of retirement, than he could be the steal of the offseason! (Haha. Just kidding. McCoy isn't coming back!)Brent Wentworth
Pitcher / 1B - 5 time. 5 time. 5 time. 5 time. 5 time Wentworth Trophy® winner.
