Fall 2014 WAKA VA Peninsula Superlatives

I just love superlatives! Because they are a way to recognize hardworking, energetic, and exciting people in a unique way. So doing superlatives for our kickball league, only seemed natural. And I'm excited to share with you the winners of the 2014 Fall WAKA Superlatives. So tomorrow night I'll have prizes for everyone who won!

You rocked the vote and have selected some pretty quality people for each category. AND I'm pleased to say we had 50% of the league participate and vote...now to tap into the other 50% ;)

2014 Fall WAKA Superlative Winners:
Partying hard!

Party Animal: Most social, life of the party, etc
This category was incredible. The winner of this pulled ahead with 48% of the votes, which honestly was no surprise whatsoever. Congratulations Brad Gault. Your sociability and party personality is loved by many. I look forward to seeing your pants tomorrow!

He'll strike out!

Best Referee: The person who consistently volunteers to ref and makes fair & balanced calls. This was a category that should have gotten more attention, considering how close this was! The top three for this were only separated by a mere 5 votes each. While I completely agree with the choice for the winner, everyone who was nominated for this category deserves special recognition and thanks! Congratulations to our own CC, Brent Wentworth. Your foul ball calls and dedication stole our hearts...but not the bases ;)

Even in candid shots he'll promote WAKA!

WAKA Spirit Award: Someone who has team spirit, league spirit, good sportsmanship, and lives the WAKA way!
While I was thrilled to have been nominated for this category, I knew that I could be no match for the winner. This person is seriously the most positive person I have ever met, right from the beginning I knew he would be a great addition to this league! While he's still fairly new, #BigJeffShildt has quickly become a hashtag that we all know and love.

A kickball proposal...nothing better!

League Lovers: Cutest Couple.
This was definitely my favorite category, because of all of the campaigning! And because I love love and am such a sucker for a good love story. The winners had a strong hold on first from the beginning, but the campaigning definitely closed the gap. And though all of these couples are stomach-aching-adorable, there is one who just took our hearts and ran home. Congratulations to Brian Neal & Jennifer Miller!

For being best friends, they sure don't have any of the 3 of them...

Dynamic Duo...or three...or four: Best friends.
Though the winners of this category won by about 10 votes, the groups in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th were all only separated by one vote each. One of the pillars of WAKA is "best friends" and it's so great to see so many people who become friends in this league, and Alex Jackson, Dom Smith, and Alex Noctor are prime examples of this pillar!

Adorable people!

Team Mom & Dad: The people who take care of their team members to ensure safety, fun, and an all around good time.
I really loved this category. I think it's so important, that while we love drinking and making bad choices, sometimes it's nice to have that parental figure in our lives. I was not at all surprised by this one, in fact, the winners received 35% of the votes, making them the second most voted for on the entire survey. It is clear that the members of this league love and adore you Missy & Ed Aaron!

I hope those on the right are metallic tights...

Best Dressed: Known for their WAKA-wear and extravagant participation in themes.
This is the one example where the facebook campaigning truly worked. While Matt Wellbrock held steady in 1st place, Jeremy Smithey who was holding strong in 2nd place pulled ahead by a mere 3 votes in the closing hours. Not sure if his win can be attributed to his facebook campaign, or if people finally realized just how great his leggings are, but one thing is for sure: the bar has been set for the #hatsnpantsparty.

Captain of the Season: The captain who promotes league events, good sportsmanship, team bonding, and embodies all qualities of a good leader.
I was honestly surprised that we didn't get more ties in the other categories, but this was one that definitely required a tie. Captains are so important for the leagues. They ask people to ref, encourage people to go to the sponsor bar, promote league activities, and help with league communication. They are seriously under-thanked and I am thrilled to see 2 great people tied for 1st. Congratulations to Brian Yohn & Brad Gault. It is clear that the league respects your leadership and hard work. Your dedication has not gone unnoticed.

Now get your party pants ready and your dancing hats on! #EOS is tomorrow at 7:30 PM at Luckies!
