The time has arrived! 8 teams representing 7 schools will be competing tomorrow to see which instituion produces the best adult kickballers. And more importantly, we are all uniting to raise funds and awareness for a great cause, The American Cancer Society. Thank you all, for joining.
Some important notes/updates/reminders:
Tournament Details
- Location: Gosnolds Hope Park, 901 E Little Back River Rd, Hampton
- Time: Games start at 9 AM. Be sure to arrive earlier so you can meet your captain, receive your tee shirts, and get warmed up.
- Schedule: https://www.kickball.com/node/
686970/schedule/view - Format: Each team will play 3 "pool play" games in the morning. After a lunch break, we will begin the "knock out" round at 1 PM. The 8 teams will compete in a single elimination bracket, seeding based on their record in the morning.
- Rules: We will use the Official Rules of WAKA Kickball. There is one tournament modification to these rules. For any walk that is a result of four balls thrown without a strike or an intentional walk, the kicker will be awarded 2nd base.
- Time Limits: We want to do everything we can to keep the tournament moving on schedule. Each pool play game will be limited to 1 hour. The referee may call the game early if time does not permit. Please limit your warm ups, hustle on and off the field, and avoid unnessecary delays.
- Refs: We have over a dozen volunteers coming out to officiate the games. These selfless people are doing so for nothing more than a free shirt and a couple slices of pizza. Please be sure to thank them as often as you can tomorrow. And buy them a beer later at Stillwater. This event could not happen without their help.
- Alcohol: Because Gosnolds is a city park, alcohol is not allowed per law. Please be responsible.
- Rosters: https://docs.google.com/
spreadsheets/d/ t87u7zuP1y3dcr7YyA9LUeQ/ htmlview?pli=1 - After Party: After the tournament, you're encouraged to meet up at Stillwater Tavern in downtown Hampton. Specials include $2 pounders, $3.50 well drinks, and great food deals!
- Social Media: If you're tweeting or instagramming, be sure to include the hashtage: #WAKAVarsity. I'll do my best to tweet results (cell phone battery life permitting) from @WAKA757 on twitter.
- Charity: Finally, a reminder as to the real reason we're all gathering together. This benefits our Relay for Life team, WAKA Kicks Cancer. Based on the attendance, this event has raised over $1,100 for the American Cancer Society. Additionally, if you'd like to purchase a tee shirt, we'll have 3 different types of tees available for $20. Bring some cash if you'd like to buy one!
If anyone has any additional questions or if I can help in anyway, please let me know. Thank you all again for joining us for this special event. I can't wait to see everyone out at Gosnolds tomorrow!
