Promptly and Powerfully Produced: Bar Buzz

The first pitch of the Fall 2015 season has yet to be thrown, but many of you have renewed the sweet feeling of gathering at Tapps. There were lots of faces familiar to me and almost as many that I did not recognize out there for the meet and greet.  I hope that everyone got the opportunity to meet someone new and had a great time.

With a last minute decision I put the belt (and an unnecessarily extra writing assignment for myself) on the table and thus, right off the bat I had incited my first controversy as the Foul Balls promptly and powerfully produced protestations (that's for you Fagel) at the suggestion that the belt was being put up for grabs.  You had the prestige of parading it around at the Spring end of season party. You had it all Summer long and what did you do with it?  Oh yeah, you lost it!  Did you take it anywhere?  Where are all the pictures of all the fun things you are doing with it that you feel you NEED one more week with it?  I understand that having the possibility of losing something suddenly thrust upon you can be frustrating and I was certainly prepared to make things easy on you this first week, you know, if you actually put any effort into it.  Maybe, just maybe, you could have brought the belt with you to the meet and greet and showed us how much you wanted to keep it.  Keep in mind the belt is just a thing.  As one sage former Foul Ball captain once asked me, "If you're just doing it for the belt, then is it really any fun?" I'm not averse to a team holding on to the belt multiple weeks if it is merited, but I hope to spread the love around and I just couldn't wait another week.
Controversies aside, lets talk about the meet and greet.  As I walk in the door, the party is in full swing.  Loud jubilant voices are pouring out the door and as my eyes adjust to the light I am overwhelmed to see a large gathering of beautiful young ladies ruminatively observing the crowd from the edge.  It turns out that every girl from Breaking Brad (Freedom league) had shown up.  They would have made a good contender for the belt, but even with my overwhelming bias I probably can't give the belt to a team that is not even in this league, but I had to brag a little.  Let me highlight a few people that were there and play on Wednesdays.

One of my favorite personalities in this league is Paola Babrow.  If you haven't met this incredibly friendly KILF then you are missing out.  When you think you are ready, don't be shy, she is the one running around the bar with the selfie stick and everyone is always invited to jump in.  Her many pictures were of great help to me to remember all the people that were there.

Speaking of KILF's, Chris Storar was out truly feeling the WAKA love as the league quickly mobilized to take care of the immediate needs of his surprise daughter Isla Raven.  I've seen many people in this league have a need that was quickly aided by the great people that surround us every Wednesday.  Your generosity amazes me.

On the outer recesses of the bar I found TJ Guarry and a huge number of Fireballs, the team, not the shot.  This was the find I was really exuberant about.  The Fireballs are still a fairly new team trying to find their place in the league both on the field and on the social scene.  They aren't well known for spending too much time at the bar so it was a great pleasure for me to see them there.  I hope they continue to make it out with us.

A few of you made sure to let me know that you were there on the Facebook page, but I didn't get any votes for other teams. One thing that I asked for and did get is a team that took me up on the expansion of the playing field.  The Alcobalics took us out for a virtual lunch with their team after Sunday practice.  I haven't met Amelia Maccubbin yet (although I've met many of her husbands), but her social media presence has me buzzing.  I have a good feeling about this team and I'm starting them off with a head start and naming them as the season's first Bar Buzz Belt recipients.  Congratulations, now go make a name for yourselves.

Since this week is the first week, my challenge to you is to get to know the new players on your team and post a short intro to the rest of the teams.  Also, don't forget to give me your opinion on which team other than your own should take home the coveted golden belt.  Remember though, that it is the fun times you have in pursuit of the belt and not the belt itself that is the real prize.

See ya on the fields,
Brad
