The Great Cargo Challenge

To Cargo or not to Cargo?  That was the question this past WAKA Wednesday.  Sadly, Mother Nature had other plans, but we were still able to make the Great Cargo Challenge happen at Tapps.

Now, let's get back to the matter at hand.  After a heated debate last week on cargo shorts, a couple of things came to a head from that conversation that may have been unknown facts to many of you.

  • ·        Most men that wear cargo shorts tend to be more reliable

  • ·        Many of those men are married or are in serious relationships

  • ·        Fagel absolutely despises the clothing item, but does have one lone supporter Wade Brock

  • ·        After taking a survey on “Do you wear cargo shorts/do you like people who do wear cargo shorts,“ an astounding majority concluded, yes they wear cargo shorts and yes they are sexy on anyone.

·

  •  Oh, and there is such a thing as flannel cargo shorts…who knew?

Obviously, we have some fashionable fellows on this league because they were ready to carry out the Great Cargo Challenge without any hesitation whatsoever even through the bad weather.

.
I do have to disagree with Business Insider’s article from this past June stating, “Now a pair of shorts should be trim and devoid of unmessy pockets.”  Don’t they know the more pockets the better?  Where else are you going to store your camera, flask, or latest slap koozie to support your  favorite kickball team?  Furthermore, as this debate has been quite relative this summer,  I decided to bring some history into the light for this magnificent piece of clothing.  As cargoes were first worn by British paratroopers in the 1930s during WWII, their tactical purpose was to carry more ammunition and K-rations.  Cargo shorts save lives!

And lastly, most women like them.  There is something about a rugged man in his cargoes.

For those who are still skeptical non-believers, Esquire magazine, one of the latest and greatest magazines in men’s fashion wrote about how this item of clothing provides character stating, “Character is something that’s earned, built, from the ground up.”  As character defines fashion itself, as well as the WAKA Community, and the debate continues, I can’t wait to see what next week’s WAKA Fashion Trend will be. To conclude, Cargo Shorts rule and Chubbies drool.
