New VA Peninsula Tiered Conference Structure!

Hello past, present, & future WAKA VA Peninsula members,

Many of you have expressed a desire for more competitive balance in the league. Well, you spoke, we listened! After gathering a lot of feedback and thinking it through, we've decided to add a tiered conference system to WAKA VA Peninsula for the spring season!

How it works:
  • When your captain creates the friend group/team, he will identify the groups preference. "A" (Jungle Gym Conference) for the highly skilled/competitive teams and "B" (David Tortolini Realty Conference) for the new/more laid back teams. (to register, please visit: www.kickball.com/vapeninsula
  • Teams will be slotted into their respective conferences, however if there is an imbalance between the two, a captains poll may determine if some teams need to be moved to the other side.
  • Each team's schedule will comprise mostly of teams within their conference, however there may be some "crossover" games scheduled.
  • The "A" conference will be playing for the prestigious Wentworth Trophy® and a bid to the Las Vegas Founders Cup World Championship. The "B" conference will be playing for the conference championship trophy as well and bragging rights.
  • The team with the best "B" regular season record will be encouraged to advance to the "A" conference the following season.
  • Both teams will be playing under the same CLUBWAKA rules with no modifications planned.
Why we're doing this:
  • Whether you're a tenured team or a rookie squad, everyone enjoys playing closely matched opponents. While this won't eliminate lopsided games, it will greatly level the playing field.
  • We've found that rookies have it tough in our league as is. We're so fortunate to have a great group of players that have played for years. Like many other activities, the more you do it, the better you get at it, so we have no shortage of amazing players and teams! This is awesome, but it also makes the learning curve that much steeper for noobs. The tiered conferences will allow new teams to gradually build up their confidence and skills before moving up to the big leagues and competing for the Wentworth Trophy®!
It's important to point out that this isn't a "split". We're not separating into two different leagues. We'll still be playing together at War Memorial Stadium, enjoying Tapps together, and partying together! WAKA is still one big, inclusive social club first and foremost. Overall, the goal is to give people options and improve our already AMAZING kickball experience.

If anyone has any feedback or questions about the conferences or anything, please reach out to me. Oh, and SIGN UP! Registration is open currently at kickball.com/vapeninsula!

Thank you,

Brent Wentworth
