Spring 2016 WAKA VA Peninsula Jungle Gym Conference First Team and All-Peninsula Superlatives

It's the post you've all been waiting for.  The best of the best.  The creme of the crop.  The crème de la crème.  The pick of the litter.  The 1337 of the elite.  The cat's meow.  The bee's knees.  The... individuals receiving the highest scores from results gathered via an online vote and calculated with a scoring system that has yet to be questioned amongst those nominated from within the portion of an adult kickball league containing teams electing to compete against the most skilled players that registered for said league... also commonly known as the SPRING 2016 ALL-PENINSULA FIRST TEAM!!!  As a bonus, the other superlatives are at the end.

For the rest of the results, follow these links to the other Spring 2016 All-Peninsula Teams:

Pitcher - Daniel Shaw (Cardiac Arrest)

The most feared pitcher in the league that will snatch any ball within his giant wingspan.  A word of advice for anyone at backstop when Daniel "The Condor" Shaw pitches... don't use your bare hands...

Catcher - Randy Devlin (WAKA'm To The Jungle)

Randy continues to show no signs of aging.  Elite speed, agility to get to any bunt, and arm strength at any angle.

Charger - Gene Efird (Don't Come On My Base)
With a first place vote on 47% of ballots, Gene ran away with the competition.  He’s best known for his chest pass that’s thrown harder than nearly everyone else’s overhand throw, but every other part of his game is just as exceptional… However, he has yet to make good on his jab at the new VA Peninsula commissioner allowing the commish to get on base each time they squared off this past spring.

First Baseman - Alex Jackson (Plan B)
No one can wrap their head around how quickly AJ can catch and release the ball at first.  You’re better off not thinking about it because before you know it he’s rounding the bases after kicking a bomb over your head.

Outfielder - Jeremy Edge (Plan B)
Jeremy is arguably the most consistent bunter in the league, but did you know he’s the reigning homerun derby champion?  Don’t worry, someone will remind you when he launches a ball past the outfielders.

Outfielder - David Lopez (Rumspringa)
David’s incredible talent has been under the radar for far too long.  With equal parts speed and power on both sides of the ball, he will make you regret testing him.

Utility - Eric Cosma (Plan B)
One of the most underrated needs of any kickball team is having someone that can fill in at charger or catcher at any moment.  If that person can also play those positions just as well as the starters, then team success will follow.  Well now it’s time for individual success for Eric as the voters have recognized his unselfish talent.

Female - Lenora Harper (WAKA'm To The Jungle)
“Let the boys play!”  Lenora is a ball-hawk on defense which is a major benefit to any team.  She is also highly reliable on offense with tons of speed so she may as well just set up permanent residence on First Team.

Female - Jillian Simms (Cardiac Arrest)
Jillian is likely the fastest female in the league so she doesn’t need a perfect bunt to get on, but none of that matters since she bunts perfectly more often than not.

Female - Katie Bruce (Smokin' Bunts)
Relatively new to kickball, Katie had great raw ability immediately.  Now after only a few seasons, she has refined every aspect of her game to become one of the most talented females in the league.

Female - Megan Kramer (Plan B)
Megan habitually underestimates her own ability.  But her peers are well aware that she belongs on this list.

---SUPERLATIVES---

Best Captain - Keith Morehart (Bad News B E E R S)
Keith led a mostly random gathering of new players to far exceed expectations during the regular season followed by a deep playoff run.  He may try to give others credit for his team's success, but a key to being a great captain is delegating responsibility to give your team the best chance to win.

Best Rookie (Male) - Ian Carden (Cardiac Arrest)
Ian is not brand new to adult kickball, but playing his first season in VA Peninsula against the top tier talent found in the Jungle Gym Conference made his outstanding performance stand out that much more.

Best Rookie (Female) - Sarah Szekely (Hotdogs and Tacos)
Sarah laid down a perfect bunt on her first plate appearance, but her success did not end there.  How far up the female ranks can she go?

Best Permanent Referee - Joshua Dell Carr
Joshua is the embodiment of a perfect referee.  He knows the rules, keeps the game on time, communicates effectively, manages controversy, promotes fun, and does it all with consistency.

Best WAKA Spirit
Female - Paola Babrow (Chaotic Kilfs)
Male - William Mckendree (Balls and Dolls)
While this league may be the most competitive in the country, the underlying goal is fun.  Will and Paola exemplify WAKA spirit not just every Wednesday night, but throughout the week.  They play hard and then party even harder.

It was such a pleasure to share the field with all of you in the spring, let's do it again in the fall!!!
