HOT DOGS & TACOS
They're rolling on the fields and now they're rolling at the bar. Congratulations, HDT. Wear the belt proudly.-----------
Well, I think it's safe to say the new specials at Tapps were very well received. The turnout on Wednesday was excellent. It was pretty awesome to see so many different colors out at Tapps mingling, drinking, eating, dancing, and flipping cups. In my opinion, this week was the best week yet. Thank you to everyone who dropped in to hang out. You are the real MVPs.
But this is the Bar Buzz. With a good increase in attendance, it makes it so much harder to evaluate the respective performances (especially when you've had a couple of those tasty Alewerks Shorty Time IPA®). But, I take these responsibilities seriously, so let's give it a go. A reminder of how this works: We'll rank each team based on their performance at Tapps last night. We look for attendance, mingling, energy, participation, and more. The top 3-4 teams will be nominated for the prestigious VA Peninsula Bar Buzz Championship and the winner will be decided via a Facebook poll in the league group. So without further ado, here we go...
15. RUMSPRINGA:
- Choice A: Go out and be social after the game at the league bar.
- Choice B: Go home and chug Smirnoff Ices alone.
Looks like they went with choice B. |
Imagine my surprise when I see zero maroon shirts at Tapps this week.
13. CATCH AND RELEASE: Who? Yeah, a random team from the Poquoson women's kickball league came out on Wednesday. Good to see you out, SBD, Katelyn Bryce, and Sarah Schmitt. Stacy killed it in flip cup!
12. BAD NEWS BEERS: Dave Tortolini was probably too busy busting his ass to help his clients find the best homes for the best prices to come out to Tapps, but what was the rest of the team's excuse? (Looking to buy or sell a home, be sure to call Dave at 757.912.4440. He'll take care of you.)
11. PBJT: Eddie Lopez and Kat Greene can't do it all by themselves, purple. (Maybe others were out too. I don't know.)
10. CARDIAC ARREST: As much as it pains me to put my beloved Heart Throbs so low on the rankings, I must as an impartial Bar Buzz judge. Ryan Schmid, Brandon Silver, and myself represented along with Robyn and Marilee, but it just wasn't enough to get us into contention. Maybe if Justin Schauf would've come out to have a birthday beer, we would've had a shot, but alas.
9. FOUL BALLS: Mike Ragin, Bree Simons, Meghan Dorsey, and Neal Fitzpatrick were among the Foulies out and about at Tapps last night. But the Lockwoods and their baby was not, so no belt.
8. FIREBALLS: As soon as I got to Tapps, I was assured by Scott Tinsley that "I promise you, there was at least six of us here earlier!" Yo, I got there at 9:15 PM. Did they just walk in and walk back out? To drop another Tinsley quote, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!"
7. JUST FOR KICKS: Points for longevity. Ant Leevy, John LaNeave, Amanda LeRoy,
5. BABY GOT BUNTS: The defending champs had a good turnout. Absolutely. But they didn't seem to do much to defend the title besides chill out in a high top by the entrance. Would've liked to see more mingling, flip cup, and longevity to get you into the finalists.
Have fun with that belt while you can, Burgmeier. |
FINAL FOUR (In No Particular Order)
- HOT DOGS & TACOS: A fine amount of pinkos out and about. And they stayed out. Long enough to be photographed chilling in shopping carts outside of Tapps.
- CORN DOGS & SOFT TACOS: Vote for Brad Gault for Virginia District 92 delegate.

- FORCING THIRD BASE: F3B brought it this week. Good turnout and very social. Josh Carr was the man who rallied the troops and started the flip cup games. They didn't have a lot of staying power (no representation in the AMP) but they made the most of the time they had.
- PLAN B: Who says you can't be dominant at kickball and partying? Plan B swept a double header and then rolled out to Tapps. As Alex Jackson stated, "We had 7 people come out to the bar which by our lowly standards is the equivalent of 40 people showing up for another team."
Does Casey earn more votes by playing flip cup with IPA? You decide. |
In conclusion, what a great week. Thank you again for coming out. We only have a few more weeks left before the summer starts and I look forward to closing out the season with more nights like this week.
A few reminders:
- Fagel posted the details for out End of Season party, so check it out, check it outers. It's Saturday, June 24th, following the tournament at Schooners in Newport News. Be sure to RSVP to the Facebook event, please.
- Sign up for the VA Patriot Summer Draft League. Registration is open at kickball.com/vapatriotexpress. We totally mix it up by throwing everyone into the pool. No better way to meet new people and play evenly matched competition than by joining the draft league! Do it!
We are a bunch of jackasses. |
Be sure to vote on Facebook. Or don't. Whatever. See you all next week!
