2018 CLUBWAKA DEOC Info Packet

Welcome!!!

We are oh so very excited that you are joining us this weekend for the FOURTH annual "Reverse Coed" (DEOC) Kickball tourney!! This Saturday, 5 teams will compete under modified WAKA rules to crown the best female dominated co-ed kickball team in the land!

It is going to be an awesome day full of kickball and happiness ALL while we raise money and awareness for a great cause - The Peninsula SPCA (I mean, who doesn't love puppies!).  Additionally, I (Anna) am WAY too excited to be taking my first stab at a CLUBWAKA Blog as I am absolutely "extra" when it comes to these kinds of things...

Anywho - let's get down to the important things like DETAILS!

  • As Brent mentioned in his email, a conflict came up and we will now be playing at Jane Bryan Elementary School in Phoebus. DON'T FEAR: This is only a few miles from Oozlefinch and the postgame specials will still be in effect for their anniversary party. The address is 1021 N Mallory St, Hampton and can be found on this google map.

  • THE MAIN DETAILS:
    • There will be a brief captain's meeting at 9:30 AM.
    • The tournament will kick off at 10:00 AM. Games will consist of 5 innings or 60 minutes.
    • The tourney format will have 4 "pool play" games for each team to determine the top two teams that will square off in the championship at 3:30 PM.
    • The full preliminary game schedule is located on the tournament website
  • THE RULES:
    • Of course, the biggest attraction for this tourney is the unique modifications to the normal CLUBWAKA rules. The run down of all the changes can be found on the event website. Here is a brief review of some of the main points.
      • Teams may only play 2 males in the infield and 2 males in the outfield. If the outfielder crosses the outfield line (as designated by cones) it will be considered a position infraction and subject to the same penalties as encroachment.
      • No more than two (2) males may kick consecutively.
      • A maximum of 7 men can be in the lineup at any given time.
      • Four straight balls without a strike/foul will result in a two base walk
  • THE REFFING:
    • We were lucky enough to have two wild and crazy guys (SNL, anyone?) that have offered up their services as home plate refs. Shout out to Justin Schauf and Travis Bryant - y'all da real MVPs.
    • We will still need teams to provide base refs during their BYE round for both of the games going on during that time period.
  • I'M HUNGRY
    • That's not necessarily a topic needing to be discussed, but I am about halfway through writing this blog and I got hungry. You know what I could do? Order PAPA JOHN'S!!
      • CLUBWAKA members can use the following coupon codes
        • WAKA18 - Good for two large one-topping pizzas for $18
        • WAKA5 - $5 off any order of $25
    • Also, you may end up hungry in the middle of the tournament Saturday. Word on the street is that Papa John's can deliver to the fields! (This is a confirmed, true statement. Be sure to use some of the coupon codes and order some lunch for your team on Saturday!)
  • THE BATHROOMS:
    • As you can see in the picture of the fields, we will only have access to a portable toilet. Those are never my favorite thing. The only thing that could make it better is having some nice toilet paper to use. I will be giving each captain a roll of the good stuff (like Charmin level good stuff) to share with the team! I mean if you gotta go in a port-a-potty, you may as well have decent toilet paper.
  • THE ALCOHOL:
    • You know where it is ILLEGAL to drink!?!? At a public park/elementary school. Which just so happens to be exactly where we are playing on Saturday.  SO I am just gonna quote straight from the man, the myth, the legend that is Brent Wentworth here:  "With this being a public park and a school, understand that drinking is against the law. If you choose to do so, understand it's at your own risk. All we ask is that you be smart, conceal, and do not leave the 'evidence' at the school (including inside their trash cans)."
    • You know where it IS legal to drink?!?! At Oozlefinch Craft Brewery! See below for more details on the after party!
  • THE AFTER-PARTY:
    • After the games, all players are invited to unwind at Oozlefinch right around the corner! All DEOC participantswill enjoy 10% off of their tabs at the brewery. Oozlefinch will also have a food truck on site and live entertainment later in the afternoon. This is their BIG 2 Year OOZLE-VERSARY! Check out specifics on food trucks and such on their facebook event.

Let me know if you have any questions at all - I can't wait to see you all on Saturday!

-Anna
