A Kickball Love Story

Hey CLUBWAKA Hampton Roads. Indulge me for a moment, please. It's Valentines Day, and as one does, I'm feeling a little sentimental. I'd like to share with you the story of how I met the love of my life, Dottie.

Nearly 10 years ago, my kickball teammates invited me to a housewarming party in Oyster Point. In addition to our squad (The Emperors Club), some of their friends and neighbors were over as well. In between beer pong games, I met Dottie for the first time. We flirted a little (if you could call my awkward jokes 'flirting') but failed to exchange info and went our separate ways. Little did I know that our paths would cross again... It wasn't until several months later when Dottie joined my Wednesday night kickball league in Yorktown, that we reconnected.

Kids.

One night, following a game against her team, The Jagernauts (as the name suggests it was started by some inebriated NASA scientists), I made my approach at the league sponsor bar. We chatted about the game, our careers (she is a nurse. I was a bank manager). We talked about upcoming Halloween plans before exchanging numbers. I got dem digits!

How I won Dottie's heart.
We began dating. And while we spent a lot of time getting to know each other outside of kickball, we
continued playing. Very rarely on the same team, but always together at the Luckie's after the games. Before I knew it, I had fallen head over heels in love with this woman. I got down on one knee after just over a year into our relationship and proposed. I knew she was the one.

It's been an amazing 10 years together. We spent a lot of years traveling around the country to various kickball tournaments after getting married in 2012.  In February of 2016, we welcomed our son, Tripp, into our family. I'm so lucky to have found love with my soulmate. It may be a cliche, but Dottie really does complete me. She helps keep me grounded and focused when sometimes my head gets stuck in the clouds. She makes me laugh every day and the amount of love she provides is incredible. Don't even get me started on how she is as a mother (Cliff version notes: She's the BEST. I give her an A++).

I couldn't ask for a better partner in life. And to think it all came together because of a crazy schoolyard game called kickball. CLUBWAKA has given me more than I will ever be able to repay, so when the opportunity came available in 2015 to take a fulltime job with the company, I didn't hesitate. My 'kickball love story' isn't even a particularly unique one. The most fulfilling part of my role as General Manager is knowing that the fun activities we organize lead to many wonderful relationships. Since I've been involved with CLUBWAKA, we've had at least a dozen couples (probably more) meet and go on to get married. Knowing that I had a small role in helping them find love, just as WAKA helped me, gives me great joy.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to wish everyone a very Happy Valentines Day. And to Dottie, I love you, babe. Thank you.

"Uh, yeah, Brent, that's nice and all. But I really only opened this blog post so I could find out when the next league starts..."

Of course! We have a bunch of really fun spring activities open now at clubwaka.com/hampton-roads. The early bird deadline for many of them is quickly approaching, so sign up today and save a few bucks. Spend the savings on a box of chocolate for your honey.
