Hampton Roads Bars & Restaurants: How To Help

As Hampton Roads continues to focus on social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19, the impacts to our local economy have been devastating. The service industry in particular has been hit hardest, with many bars & restaurants having to suspend operations, reduce the capacity, or move to carryout/delivery only options.

The margins in the food industry are pretty tight. Many of these restaurants and bars will not survive a sustained drop in business without some support. Once CLUBWAKA is able to safely resume league operations, we're going to tear it up at our favorite sponsors, like we always do. However, in the meantime, here are some of the ways you can help our favorite bar partners.

Member the times before social distancing? I member.

STUFT

Our Thursday kickball & volleyball clubhouse in Phoebus has closed their dining room, but is still open for delivery and takeout. The food truck is set up in the parking lot for carryout and you can even order ahead online at stuftstreetfood.com. The best part? STUFT has an ABC off-premise license, so you can grab some beer to go as well. Nothing better than spending the quarantine with some Bulgogi Cheesesteak Eggrolls and a 6-pack of some crispy boys!

Bucketheads makes people happy. Except for Christine. She's a little intense here.

BUCKETHEADS BEACH GRILL

Bucketheads is a great bar on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach that is known for fantastic burgers, wings, and epic postgame socials for our #MondayNightKickball crew. They are currently still open for dine-in patrons, while strictly observing the 10 person maximum and diligently focusing on their sanitation routines. If you don't want to dine-in, to go orders are encouraged and delivery options are available through Grubhub, Doordash, and Uber Eats

SLY CLYDE CIDERWORKS

Our Tuesday night cornhole host has closed the taproom until the outbreak blows over. That doesn't mean that you must go without the BEST cider in Hampton Roads while you binge watch Netflix. Sly Clyde cans are available on the shelves of grocery stores like Wegmans, Trader Joes, and Food Lion. They also just announced a new curbside pickup option. Order your cans online and swing by the cidery to pick them up from the source!

Resting Paul's Face.

PAUL'S NEIGHBORHOOD DELI & RESTAURANT

Paul's is a staple of the New Town community in Williamsburg. They are still open for dine-in customers while keeping the restaurant clean and sanitized. Curbside pickup and delivery options are also available for all of the delicious items on the menu.

OOZLEFINCH BEERS & BLENDING

The tasting room at Oozlefinch is closed. However, that doesn't mean you have to go without these tremendous craft beers! Complete your order online and swing by our Sunday Soccer home for curbside pickup. Additionally, delivery options are also available to customers within a 10 mile radius of Fort Monroe. The best part? Oozlefinch is offering their beer at wholesale prices to give you all a fantastic deal during your self-quarantine!

BILLSBURG BREWERY

Speaking of tremendous beers, you can not do much better than the lagers and IPAs at Billsburg Brewery, the home of CLUBWAKA Williamsburg Summer Cornhole. To help flatten the curve, they have closed their tasting room as well. Billsburg will have a skeleton crew available on site to fulfill your to-go orders. Call the office at 757-926-0981 to put your same-day order in.

GUY FIERI'S PIZZA PARLOR

The official post-game home of #WAKAWednesday has made the difficult decision to temporarily close during the outbreak. They do not have an re-open date yet, but know that as soon as it's safe to do so, the Power Plant will be back rocking and rolling. Please follow Guy's on Facebook and Instagram so you'll be notified when the doors are reopened. In addition to enjoying $1 pizzas at Guy's every Wednesday during the Spring, look for CLUBWAKA to host one of our midseason blowouts at PBR. Details to come soon.

COUNTY GRILL

First the coronavirus has taken sports from us. Now it's taken County Grill's cornbread. It's gone too far. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait a few weeks at least to enjoy Hampton Roads' best BBQ. County Grill has a hopeful reopen date of April 1st. We can't wait to once again pack CG every Friday night following Kiln Creek kickball! In the meantime, you can purchase gift cards online for yourself or friends.

OCEANS & ALE

Our Williamsburg bowling league enjoyed hanging out at O&A throughout the winter because of the amazing food and fantastic service. Oceans & Ale has shut down their dining room, but is offering curbside pickup and carry-out options. If you have multiple mouths to feed, they're offering daily "Family of 4 Curbside Pickup" specials. Call 757.253.2ALE to place your order.

PAPA JOHN'S PIZZA

Of course, we can't forget about the Official Pizza of CLUBWAKA Hampton Roads, Papa John's. You might be hesitant to order from a national chain right now, but Papa John's Pizza of Hampton Roads is a locally owned and operated franchise, so the support will go to members of our community. Plus, you get a heck of a deal with any of the available CLUBWAKA promo codes (see above). Order delivery. Tip your driver. Enjoy better ingredients. Better pizza.

These are just some of the ways you can help local bars, restaurants, and breweries. Additionally, you can support service workers across the country by supporting a non-profit. The RWCF has set up a COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund to help Restaurant workers and owners who are experiencing hardship due to the loss of business. Consider donating this great cause.

We're so grateful to have the best sponsor bars for our leagues. The businesses and staff who take care of us every week are just as much a part of our CLUBWAKA community as our players. If you're in a position to support, we ask that you consider doing so.
