Bar Buzz Week 5

"We've got to hold on to what we've got cause it doesn't make a difference if we make it or not. We've got each other and that's a lot. For love - we'll give it a shot."

No Dampened Spirits Here!
While Week 5 didn't see any action on the field, there was plenty to be found at the bar.  And although we were few in numbers this week, not even the rain could keep the WAKA VA Peninsula players from doing what we do best at Luckie's.  We even managed to pull together our obligatory (and crowd favorite) "After Midnight" photo. And the best part???? Service was great and Luckie's didn't run out of pounders (or anything else for that matter).

Very Serious Kickballers Play Very Serious Flip Cup
This week it's important to mention the bottom of the rankings because these teams at least had someone in attendance repping their team with pride.  That being said, #10 is six-way tie between Foul Balls, Emperor's Club, Jiminy Kick-It, Vicious and Delicious, and Moose Knuckles: As a side note, My oh my how our first two Bar Buzz champs have fallen.

#9 Saved by the Balls: Late night faithful Brad Gault, tried to make it in time for our after midnight picture (just to prove that he was there - hmmm?) but it wasn't enough to get his team anywhere close to the top.

#8 Battlestar Ballsacktica: Although these storm troopers were disguised in plain clothes, BB tried to keep up the pace this week. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to keep them at the top. Will they revert to their supper club ways or will Week 6 bring them a quick return to the top?

Who doesn't love the Jeffs??
#7 5 O'Clockers: This week was a rough one for the Clockers as (like many other teams) they were low in participation. However, unlike  the others Jeff Lee was sporting his team jersey with pride which put him over the top (as well as his love of fellow teammate Jeff White

#6 Chicken Tetrazzini: Pretty in Pink, CT had the numbers this week but not much more to back it up. Hopefully this is just a temporary set back for the Chicks who have worked so hard to get to the top.

#5 Rumspringa: Arriving late in the game (they didn't even make it to pass on the belt to the next champs), the 'Springas still managed to get the party started. And although they made it to the top five, in a week where the lower ranked teams had meager showings, they truly have fallen far from their strong showing just two weeks ago that earned them the Bar Buzz Belt. Can the 'Springas earn the belt without the Jager name attached to their own? Spring the Rum, bring back the Springa party we all know and love!

The Commissioner in Blue?!? Oh no he didn't!
#4 Chubby Gangsters: When their heads are in the game, the Gangsters are a force to be reckoned with. They proved this with their high ranking in the standings early on. Even Commissioner Wentworth donned his Carolina Blue staying "I figured if I ever wanted to win the Belt I needed to join a team that actually had a shot." I don't know how his VIP teammates feel about that but he might be on to something. Although they didn't make it into the top three this week, with a little more consistency (and warm summer days ahead, combined with the talents of AJ and Jeff of course) it's possible the CG's could make it to the top in no time.

#3 Jagernauts: This week we saw a Jagernaut team that appears to have separated from their beloved alliance with Rumspringa. However, when contacted for comment, Kevin Gitkos stated "I can neither confirm nor deny this alliance. There's not enough glitter in the world that can get me to speak against my teammates - whether they were forged on the field or at the bar. I will not betray their confidence." He then proceeded to chug 3 pounders and a lift two bar stools at a time repeatedly.  But unlike their bar time accomplices, the 'Nauts managed to fair well on their own. Their trademark ability to mix and mingle always brings them to the top and a well played marathon game of quarters with the reigning champs didn't hurt their scoring either.

New Kickheads Kickin' It
#2 NKOTB: It was a great week for the New Kickheads who showed up in great numbers with their newly pimped shirts. They were the second group to the bar,  and it appears that the only team they are coming second to these days is Off in the Corner. If only they could find a way to overcome the zeal and enthusiasm of our underdog friends in bright orange who keep losing on the field but always manage to win at the bar.

#1 Off in the Corner: Well, it's another historical week here at the Bar Buzz (although one could argue that all weeks are historical since this is the inaugural season of our infamous, hilarious blog column) as Off in the Corner has managed to clinch the Champ title for a second week in a row. I have said from the beginning that it would take a lot for a team to get the belt twice and OitC certainly had it this week - and it wasn't just because things were "slower" at the bar. They opened the bar (literally, the doors were unlocked for them). They played quarters. They created dance trains and created dance mobs across the bar. In fact, Off in the Corner was anywhere but in the corner.  As if Week 4 wasn't convincing enough for the other teams, this week they further solidified that you might be able to beat off in the corner on the field, but when it comes to the bar ...don't even think about it.  So what's it gonna be Pen Div 'Ballas??? Can your team beat Off in the Corner at Luckie's? I triple dog dare you.
Off in the Corner: Week 5 (2nd Week Running) CHAMPS!

In other news, we here at the Bar Buzz would like to give a big shout out to one of our favorite couples at the bar... often the subject of several paparrazzi shots (and she might very well be the only one besides Dan Moore keeping the Cupid Shuffle alive)...

Way to go Commish and soon-to-be Mrs. Commish: Congrats on your Engagement!
We wish you all the best.

The Happy Couple, Brent Wentworth and Dottie Wood

Until next week - Bottom's Up!

  1. I wouldn't say we have fallen. I would call it graciously allowing others to enjoy the spotlight ;)

  3. I wonder if there will be a special Mid-season Party BarBuzz addition... Also Brent do you have the over/under of how many people will get thrown out? :) I will guess over 12

  4. Does it count as more than 1 throw-out if the same person gets kicked out multiple times? I've been kicked out of Luckie's at 2 separate kickball functions 3 times now.. Poor Jimmy ;)
